Apparently NBC is going to use AI Al Michaels (that's a i, not AL) for the Olympics.

IF it was OK with the Schonz family, would you be ok if the Blazers used AI to re-create/use Schonz for commercials going forward?

Yes maybe sometime we could do that. I wouldn't want to do it now with such a long rebuild and losing seasons ahead. Maybe when the team is getting ready for some playoff pushes we could bring that out, of course if the Schonz family approved.

Using AI versions of people needs to be made so the person or family of the person is compensated at a rate higher than using a similar type or level of person.

Using AI Schonz the Blazers should have to pay the family a higher rate than Calabro.

Anything less would be seen as profiting off the dead.

That's what was implied when I said it was ok with the family.

The only way this is palatable is if the Schonz family is ok with it and paid well.

I don't know that it needs to be equal pay to an announcer, there is a significant cost to the tech/AI/programming team, and the "announcer" family or real life person doesn't have to do any work. Being the normal physical announcer is many hours and travel, research, etc.

It certainly needs acceptable compensation though.

I'd rather be profited off when I'm dead than when I'm alive.

Can I just chill for a few more decades and then get paid? I could borrow against posthumous earnings. :)

More seriously: authors' estates profit off of the works of dead authors all the time, right? I don't think it's that different.

This is very different. These are full-time jobs that would be taken away. They license the software for an AI Schonely they're going to use it for TV, radio, and probably the Spanish radio. You're looking at 2-3 full-time jobs lost.

Using a previous work by an author is very different than replacing one or more actors with AI.

And seeing some of the mistakes AI makes you know AI Schonz will say shit like, "Bingo, Bimbo, Banjo."

We'll they'll probably need 3 people working full time to setup the AI and decide what it says and fix errors and other stuff. Then at least 4 managers. So thats 7 new jobs.

Schonely announcing on Spanish radio would be nuts and yes the AI can do it perfectly. My wife colleagues setup test presentations of themselves with AI in other languages.

Selling Lord of the Rings books prevents someone from spending that money on a new book.

I don't see a big difference.

Are people really advocating to listen to fake voices of real people? Like... wut?

They'll just create the all new Schill Bonley. Then nobody is harmed.

Actually does kind of make me wonder about that, why use a real person when you could use a fictional character or historic figure and pay nothing.

Maybe Abe Lincoln will be announcing Blazers games next season.
