Should the Blazers re-sign Jusuf Nurkic this summer?

Nurkic has 3 choices.

Sign the qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent the following year

Sign with the Blazers

Sign a qualifying offer in which the Blazers can match

So in essence, Nurkic isn't going anywhere unless the Blazers choose to let him go.

He's talking about Ed Davis.

theres no doubt in my mind that Nurk deserves max contract

probably the most deserving NBA max contract of all time

Wow, I didn’t realize weed was legal in the Balkans but glad you’re indulging yourself. Send whatever strain you’re smoking over here.....I like Nurk but he hasn’t even solidified himself as a mid tier talent yet, let alone an elite, max contract tier talent. But a little enthusiasm, misplaced or otherwise from the fans is always welcome.....

:smiley-beerchug:

Re-signing Davis would occur after the new league starts. The tax for this year doesn't change what MLE will be available this summer. The only thing it did was not start the repeater tax clock.

We can sign Davis to any contract regardless of the MLE.

Ah okay thanks!

I'm with UncleCliffy'sDadd on this one. Your stogie must be a Cheech n Chong special, cuz your mind is fuzzy. Nurk is only half a great center. The defensive half. If he can learn to score at will in the face of all opposition, then I'll agree with you and he should get the other half of a max as well

Internet lynch mobs are up there with keyboard warriors on my list of things that make me laugh:)

I’m an internet clown. THink nothing other. Just ask around. I love to fool even at expense of looking like the fool cause I really don’t drool over the stool that is consistently dumped in the room.
I flow in and out of each thread, like pushing buttons with ainternet thermonuclear warhead.
But in the end I mean no harm and am often just bored or lacking in charm.
The only time I’m really serious here is when I talk details about the Blazers. Other than that I’m just an act. Can play most characters with most moods from the victimized snowflake to the road warrior toughguy dude. ;)

Welcome to the forum. Wish you would have lived longer. You were one of the top 5 voices that have influenced my music.

At this point I would not mind letting Nurk walk. I’ll take a lessor but more consistent talent than one that is regularly a non-factor.

When he’s on, love having him. Otherwise I just come away disappointed.

At least with Plumlee we knew what we would get, nowhere near the talent but always effort. Nurk, not so much.

I’d rather pay and start Ed then pay Nurk 15-17 mil.

As was mentioned we don't need the MLE to re-sign Ed, and it is a good thing because it would not be enough. No need to break the bank for him but he will need to be making more than Meyers. I am thinking 11-12 per.

As for Nurk I would pay him about 14-16 per year.
Davis isn't making more than the full MLE.

Jordan, Kanter, and many other solid centers are on the market this summer.

Which year of their career did Hassan Whiteside, Rudy Gobert, Steven Adams become consistent studs? Nurk is in his 4th year and didn't play a ton of consistent minutes before coming over last year. How old was Marc Gasol as a rookie? 24? Nurk's 23.

Tell you what...here's all the centers on rookie contracts (or just off of them) in the league right now. Tell me which one or two you'd rather have/pay for the next 4 years entering their prime than Nurk (non Top-5 pick category)...
Bender, Porltl, Sabonis, Papagiannis, Maker, Zizic, Labissiere, Cauley-Stein, Kaminsky, Myles Turner, Hernangomez, Capela, Len, Noel, Olynyk, Nogiuera, Plumlee, DIeng

Aside from top 5 picks (Davis, Embiid, KAT, Porzingis, Boogie), which we famously haven't had since LMA/Oden, we've struck on one of the best centers of the generation. And we can keep him if we want.

And even if we did let him go (let's even go so far as to assume we get a 1st-round pick somewhere between 6 and 26 for him), the chances that we find a consistent, two-way, legit-7' center entering his prime as productive as Nurkic already is in the draft is very slim.

I'm ok with paying him. I'm ok with paying him a bit of a premium.

I say let Nurkic test his market value as a restricted free agent and then if it's not insane money, match. If I had to guess, I'll bet he gets somewhere just a little over the MLE.

How are we getting that lessor talent? The draft? Because if you let Nurkic walk you only have mid-MLE money to pay a replacement. That seems like a steep down-grade to me. No matter how much people hate hearing it, Nurkic is young (in playing time and years) and will get more consistent. I can understand people aren't patient anymore but you are letting a future all-star-cailber (in 3 to 5 years from now) player go because you are worried he is too inconsistent now (when now we aren't going to win right now even if he isn't). It isn't about now. It is about 2 years from now putting it all together. Which once again, I understand is hard to accept when we are tired are hearing about the future and being patient.

He isn't getting a max offer from anybody in this league but I won't be shocked if Neil gives him one anyway.

He's definitely not even close to being worth a max.

That's what people said about Allen Crabbe.

Sounds like something Kingspeed would say.
@Mr. Robot you just got compared to @KingSpeed by @BigGameDamian . . . do you know how embarrassing this is? My brain just fucking melted.

That's what people said about Allen Crabbe.

Allen Crabbe got that contract in a season when all teams received additional $20M to their salary cap in one go, and most of them did not have their cap packed with high deals prior to the free agency anyway as previous max deals were much, much lower.

Nurkic will be looking for offers in a market where nearly all teams have their cap bloated with average players earning beyond $15M and sometimes even $20M.

It's not even remotely the same situation. There will be about 6 teams with max space available and I can't see any of them offering that to Nurkic.

Someone like Tyreke Evans would have got $15M per year minimum in 2016. He got $3.3M in 2017.

and no shows like last night is why he's not close to a max player, 12-15 mil per AT BEST and his inconsistent play this year makes me wonder if I really want to keep him

Back issues for big men scare me.
Should have traded him when we had the chance. Just another case where the Blazers front office doesn't have the balls to make such a move. Can't say I'm surprised.

We should re-sign him. It's not like we have better options.
