Should the Blazers re-sign Jusuf Nurkic this summer?

By the end of a four year deal, we'll know if he's legit or if he's a stopgap for an emergent Collins, or neither.
lets "hope" we do see an "emergent Collins", he was invisible last night as he often seems to be, I know he's young but he's consistently meh

Nurkic has played his way out of a large deal, so let him establish his value in the RFA market and as long as a team like the Nets doesn't offer him a dumb contract, match. I don't expect him to be a lot more than a strong defensive/poor offensive center, but even that is worth single-digit millions per year. And if he actually does develop a passable offensive game, so much the better.

I hope that Collins became a starter in this league. One of my guys (Bender) was 4th pick 2 years ago. Also PF who wasn't ready for the NBA. He's in his 2nd NBA year, and still the main thing he does is shooting 3s. I'm afraid Zach would be the same, but let's hope.

good news is nobody has cap space this offseason, and the teams that do (lakers, OKC, etc.) are going after the big fish namely Paul George and Lebron James. It is highly unlikely that anyone makes him an offer like the poison pill that BKN offered Crabbe.

As has been proposed a million times....if we sign somebody this summer it should be a big man coach

hows relationship between him and Dame, are they close as we can hear
how is he in general with the guys from the team
Best locker room in pro sports...that's not an issue...Ed Davis says it's absolutely a tight group...all bros

I also don't want to lose all the cool new Bosnian fans around here....so there's that. Sabonis was over 30 when he came here...this guy's still growing

thats smartful thinking, you dont want to mess with bosnians

Sabonis wasn't "growing" when he came over at 30, he was well off of his peak and was dunking on David Robinson at Nurkic's age. Nurkic might get a little better, but he's probably not gonna be a star.

I should have reworded that post...I thought folks would know I was speaking of Nurk...Sabo was shrinking at 31...slightly from bone dust

The easiest things for him are the hardest. Fuck sake, finishing at the rim should be easy job for a C. It's like he's afraid or something, then most of the time he shot the ball so quick and so sloppy. Why isn't anyone working on that with him?

every fucking game he misses at least one easy layup, if hed convert just one of those, hed have 16 ppg as of now

I do believe coaching staff instructed him to rebound less and have him just enclose the area so others could get the rebounds... both weight loss and regress in the rebounding lead me to that conclusion... less pressure on his kness and ankles means better health

Increased workload is no guarantee of a linear increase in production. Nurkic certainly has flashes, but I think a huge part of his problem is consistency of effort. Is that just a matter of development? Possibly, but I think there's also a wiring problem; it's a huge part of the reason he was available in trade.

or maybe just part of being 22, rich and working on the big stage in a foreign country....

Having a fire in your belly to outwork and dominate doesn't really have anything to do with being 22, being foreign or being on a big stage. I'm not saying Jusuf is lazy, it's just that his focus and effort seem to waver a lot from quarter to quarter, game to game and it might be as much about his personality traits as it is his maturity level. FWIW, I think he's still a pretty good player and will probably get incrementally better, but the "Bosnian Beast" we saw last year is probably more of a ceiling and less of a floor. I'm sure he'll be a perfectly OK defensive center for years to come with occasional outbursts of offensive brilliance, but probably no more than 16-18 points per game . . . at least here in Portland, under Stotts.
