Should We Drop Houston?

I?m an Allan Houston fan, but this move is just simply the best move for the team. We lose about 40 million dollars if we let him go. Any disagreements?

This game is a business first and a sport second, there is no possible way you wouldn't exercise that. New York should really have to continue to lie in the bed they made, but it looks like a get out of jail free card, bigtime.

I think we should waive him regardless of whether he comes back healthy or not. He will never earn 40 million dollars in the next two years, plus with the us getting Q we don't need another swingman.

You?re right, Houston has done a lot for the organization and is one of the top shooting guards of this franchise, but what?s better for the team. If we kept Houston it would be for sentimental reasons and those reasons wouldn?t be in the Knicks best interest. We would lose 40 million in cap and hopefully in the near future, we will be able to sign someone decent not just through the MLE.

Could we drop him and resign him for mle or somehow make it so that only a small amount of his contracted is actually on the books? If we could do that then i would say keep him

If he doesn't agree to retire, or a buyout, the Knicks have to release him.

MrJ just to clarify, his salary still counts against the cap space and they still have to pay him, but they save $40M in luxury tax.

Removing Houston doesnt help the cap situation whether we cut him or whether he retires. All it does is save Dolan alot of cash(cash that he offered to pay). It doesnt really help the team much so the Knicks would probably be better off hoping he's healthy than cutting him. He only has two years left on his deal and we have other players who make too much money that are on the books for longer than two years. We should let go of Mo Taylor or Malik Rose and wait out Houston's contract. If Houston's not healthy this season I'm pretty sure he'll just call it quits and retire anyway.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Allan Houston will never play like he used to, I believe this move is probably the best move for the team.

H<font size="1">2</font>0 was extremely well paid so I think he will understand. He got major love with that money, but basketball and every sport is about the "now" or the "lately". He hasn't done much in the last few years.

Then again, Houston has two years left on his contract with 20 mil a year just about. Owner might as well hold on to it and use it to land a max player that wants to play for the Knicks. If they don't feel comfortable about that they can just use it as cap relief.

I personally loved Houston, I would rather keep him as a mentor for crawford, maybe use him as backup, plus Richardson for Kthomas is retarded, I love Richardson, but we have no big men, does that mean Knicks are going for Frye? Plus i hope we trade away some Pf's, like mo, rose, and just keep sweetney, and williams and leave Butler, hopefully, HOPEFULLY, he will develop into a decent center. Has anyone seen Butler play?

But you said you want to get rid of our power forwards - Thomas was the only tradable and that's what we did. I think what Bobby Escobar should be done. We should waive him and sign him to the MLE. That works out for me.

Has anyone seen Butler play?</div>It's rumored that the Knicks have full intentions on drafting Frye since Taft has been terrible in workouts and has supposedly dropped out of the lotto and Green (whom Isiah was infatuated with, not sure about now) won't be there. Plus, it seems logical. With the trade of Mohammed and the potential to trade Kurt, they're going to need another big body to put up there with Sweetney. Frye might be the most ready center outside of Bogut in this draft. There are better ones potential wise then him (see Andrew Bynum and Chris Taft), but they might not be ready to play yet. Frye is probably the best option for them at this point since their in need of frontcourt help.
