Gallinari has said he has two workouts planned...both in the New York area and both this week. After that, he will see what's next.

Ian Thomsen says it's a lot firmer than that: that Gallinari wants a guarantee from the Nets or Knicks or he goes back to Italy and a big personal services contract with the president of his Italian League team, Mr. Giorgio Armani. Thomsen says Gallinari is trying to scare off other teams from drafting him. His agent is David Falk, who used to represent someone named Jordan and still reps KVH. He knows how to do this.

This is about the time you start hearing about guarantees.

Jared Jordan? Heh.

Hell, why not? He's supposedly the best international prospect in this draft. Once again, I'm not against this.

He doesn't possess a good vertical leap nor a high release point. Anyone worried he will not be able to adequately get his shot off against NBA defenders?

When's the last time the Nets offered a guarrantee? KMart?

Zoran Planinic...Sean Williams...

I think it is a VERY good sign for the franchise that a player is using David Falk to scare other teams away from a lottery pick.

And I am damn tired of this knee-jerk reaction to European players. Until he was hurt, Krstic was a phenomenal pick.

I think I will now go to YouTube and watch some Danilo highlights.

Danilo "Bada Bing" Gallinari.

Yes, Krstic was a great pick. It is quite rare to select even a competent big outside the lottery.

its surprising if he actually wants to play for the nets. when was the last time anyone wanted to play for NJ?

Sounds like he wants to be in the NYC market above all else.

Don't denigrate Mikki's contributions.

I know, right! Who wants a bum who shoots for the highest FG% in the league?

It's like what Sonny Vaccaro did to us in '96 with Kobe. Only Falk is doing it to other teams.

Mikki and Boki "want" to play in NJ, but this is different. My initial reaction was (I'm guessing) pretty similar to Real's: is a top product really pulling a Yi/Kobe to sign with us? That's f***** amazing! I can't wait to see what other FA will join our team because of Brooklyn!

Good point. Shit, this feels like a turning point for the Nets, in some sense.

Today, Gallinari...Tomorrow, Lebron?

We could push LeBron to PF, and Dwight to C.

DO IT THRON.

this is great news for us! even though it's only a half and half chance we get him.
are the Knicks interested in anyone in particular besides him? I'd hate to see him go to the Knicks.
looks like we have our #10 pick....

Let's consider the source of this before we get too excited.

It was reported by an SI columnist named Ian Thomsen. Who?!? Not Chad Ford, not Andy Katz, not even Jonathan Givony. This is a guy who's not primarily a career basketball analyst, and a guy who has both the Pacers and Kings passing up on D.J. Augustin in favor of DeAndre Jordan and Joe Alexander.

Now let's look at what was actually said. Thomsen writes, "According to several league sources, Danilo Gallinari is putting out word that he would like to be drafted by a franchise in the greater New York area, among a few other preferred teams." Not just one other preferred team either, but a few. That could (and probably does) include Los Angeles and Milwaukee.

Then Thomsen writes, "I heard Monday that he wants to go to New York or New Jersey," an NBA team president said. "He's too good to pull out of the draft, but he might stay over there [in Europe] for a while if he doesn't like the team that drafts him."

First of all, the source is annonymous, and even if it weren't, around this time of year, you should expect smoke screens. Secondly, he uses the words "wants" and "might." So even if all of this is true and Gallinari wants to play in the New York area, he's not giving teams an ultimatum. Lastly, the most important part about that quote is the prepositional phrase at the end. The annonymous NBA president didn't say that he might stay in Europe if the Clippers or Bucks drafted him. He simply says he might stay in Europe if he's drafted by a team "he doesn't like."

And do you really want a guy who thinks this highly of himself that he'll only grace the league with his presence if its one of his chosen teams?

Last week the Knicks were taking Galliniari, this week however they are taking Randolph. So I guess they are starting to like Anthony Randolph.

dwight is under contract till 2012, amare stoudemire however, can opt out in 2010 (same case as lebron)

gallinari would be a great pick at #10...now who would be available at #21 who can score from inside? speights? hardin?

italians have recently been busts in the nba (bargnani, belinelli) but can a trio of bargnani, gallinari and belinelli be the answer to the nets' outside shooting woes?

Kobe did it

And Garnett did it, in a sense - he only wanted to get traded to a team that got his stamp of approval

Well according to this same article, it has us taking Serge Ibaka at #21.

I'm not familar with Ibaka at all, but according to nbadraft.net he is the next Shawn Kemp so of course we have to take him immediately; once we figure out how to trade for Jordan err Deshawn Stevenson.

In all seriousness though. I like the idea of taking Danilo for these reasons:

He has a high basketball IQ so you know he will get minutes from Frank
He will make Boki expendable, therefore not forcing us to pay him a big contract
He has very high potential to be a great player in the future
Gives us a chance to find a new quirky nickname for a player
And most of all... he helps sell tickets so Yormack will be happy!

I also like the idea of taking a prospect/project that we can stash for a couple years in a guy like Ibaka; should Kiki Thorn decide to keep the #21 pick and not deal it away.

He's going to restructure his contract, and demand a trade to the NETS.

I don't know who this Ibaka is, but I do know one thing: There will never be a "next Shawn Kemp".
