I remember when the lock out was over, Stern made a comment regarding "Sign and Trades". I think it was something like "You won't see as many sign and trades, because it's not advantageous to the teams". Does anyone have an idea what he was talking about?

Does it mean that the team orchestrating the sign and trade will not have the Bird advantage or something? If this is the case, then I wonder how many players will stay on their respected ball clubs? I mean the players that actually care about money, and that extra year means a lot to them.

Basically, in the new CBA, sign & trade contracts won't be any better than regular free agent contracts, so there won't be any advantage to the player to try to go that route.

Except during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, teams are prohibited from using a sign-and-trade if their team salary post-transaction would exceed the tax level by more than $4 million. Sign-and-trade contracts will have a maximum length of four years and receive 4.5% annual increases.
