Huh? The Knicks are out of the playoffs, which means they're in the lottery.
Well they sure as hell aren't in the playoffs.
Show me where the Knicks have a lottery pick in the year 2014. Thats what kingspeed referenced, and that's where BGD changed the foundation his argument.
And then he changed it to include Detroit (not one of the 4 biggest markets in the NBA), as a "major franchise". Not sure how Detroit became a "major franchise".
The top 4 market teams (by city, so LA and NY are counted once) are New York, LA, Chicago and Philadelphia. Then Dallas, SF/Oakland, Boston, Atlanta, WDC and Houston.
THEN it's Detroit.
Not sure how Detroit is considered a major franchise.
I do. I made a mistake unblocking you from ignore!!
suck on that, BC!
(hoping you know that's green font there)

I guess I misread the post. I thought it was referring to the thread where someone stated this was the first year the L*kers, Knicks and Celtics all missed the playoffs.
Exactly. They aren't in the playoffs OR the lottery. That's the price for picking up Melo.
No, it doesn't. Denver has NY's pick.
Yes, they all missed the playoffs but the Knicks don't have a pick so for all intents and purposes, the Knicks aren't in the lottery.
Wiping Toronto would be very counterproductive to the leagues dream of expanding over seas.
Why are we talking about contracting over expanding?
One thing I like about MLB is that they have no real eastern conference and western conference lineup.
So, you can have a NY/LA first round in both leagues.
In a way, the NBA could do something like that, although I'm not sure how.
If they could do a league where everyone plays everyone equally, that'd be good. But I'm fairly certain that would to an unbalanced schedule.

For instance, if you just scrapped the conferences, you could potentially eliminate the possibility of a LeBron-Durant NBA Finals. East versus West is an institution in the NBA, so there would have to be a way to still have that while making sure the best teams make the postseason.
Maybe it was not intended to come off this way, but I would like to see the two best teams rather than a marquee matchup like James and Durant. I would almost go with something in the middle. Say, the top four teams in each conference earn those top four spots, with the bottom four seeds in each conference being determined by the next best eight records across the league. That would at least propel teams in each conference to battle for one of those top four spots.
Make no mistake, the second LeBron moves west, the current playoff picture will be the one that prevents a LeBron/Durant finals... and then we'll see this new solution put into place.
