Simmons Makes All-Overpaid List

The Sporting News is out with its annual “Big Country Reeves Memorial Overpaid List”, named for the player Vancouver (now Memphis) agreed to pay $65 million a few years back. Sean Deveney writes that Simmons has never fulfilled the promise of his five-year, $47 million deal and last season “looked like a shadow of his former self,” ranking him sixth on the list. Three former Nets made the top 10.

The media are often chasing the stats from the past. That's the case here.

Simmons was overpaid the past couple of years. Whether he is or is not overpaid this year will depend on how he plays this year. If he can start for us and be anything like he was before his big contract then he is not overpaid.
