As a Lakers' fan, I'm really hoping for Ingram. Spaces the floor much better, has an effortless jumper, and has all the tools to develop into an above average defender.

Get the hell outta here... :blahblah:

I think the best player from this draft won't be Ingram or Simmons...just a hunch

Simmons has some serious skills to his game. College ball was effortless for him and he still put up like 19/14. Ingram looks like he has a really slow release to me. Don't see him being very effective as a primary scorer in the NBA.

Regardless of all that, Simmons' ceiling projects to be a superstar while Ingram's doesn't. For that reason alone, this HAS to be BS. Very surprised by poll results so far.

Same. I'd take Simmons ten times out of ten.
Only five players on court & need to maximize the talent you can get.
Simmons has more talent than Ingram IMO.

I think it reflects an aversion to risk. As a life long Blazers fan, I get that. ;)

I can't help but think that the fact that Simmons is not American is a factor.

Doubt it. Simmons is pretty immersed into American culture. The guy played AAU ball with D'Angelo Russell even. No way the scouts look at him differently because he's an Aussie. Bogut went #1. Exum went top 5.

I think it might have more to do with his alligator arms.

I must admit I did not know Simmons weighed in at 240 at the Pre draft camp. I thought he was thinner.
I really don't think either will be a bust. On the right team Simmons can be great. Not sure how he would fit with our offense.
But a smart coach will adapt to fit his skill set and a smart gM will surround him with the right players. I would not be surprised if he had a rough couple of years before he excelled. But he really is quite talented. Again it comes down to his attitude and work ethic.

Ingram on the other hand will fit any offense, because he can flat out shoot the rock. Very smooth player.

Also the fact that Ingram reminds us of Durant, and we know what happened when we didn't draft Durant.
That's it for me, and probably a fatal flaw in my thinking. Simmons doesn't really remind me of anyone in particular (people say he has Lebron's court-vision, but he seems to lack the explosive athleticism), whereas I can't help but see Durant when I watch Ingram.

I think Simmons biggest knock is he couldn't even take his team to the tournament in what I'd consider a down year for the SEC. If he is so great, why couldn't he get there?

Yeah but very few of these college players are good enough as freshman to single handily take their team to the tournament. I lean towards Ingram, but he couldn't do that either. Melo was more of the exception. It still comes down to how good can they be in 2-3 years........ when you are evaluating their draft value.

I remember things like that being said about Oden compared to Durant.

Why can't Ingram be a superstar?

This is your classic "nothing to gain" season from Simmons. If he singlehandedly lead LSU to the NCAA title, he still only goes #1. He probably figured out pretty quickly that wasn't going to be possible with his supporting cast. His main goal at that point was probably not getting injured. Hence the motor questions.

Last I read on this subject, studies had shown that you are more likely to get hurt when dialing it back and being lackadaisical then going hard.

Notice how Simmons finishes everything around the rim with his right hand, but shoots jumpers left handed.

Doesn't make sense
My older brother actually did the same. I'm not exactly sure why/when he started shooting his jumpers with his left, but he did all through high school.

I just pushed Simmons into the lead 23-22. While Ingram is over a year younger, and comparing an 18 year-old to a 19 year-old if often unfair, I still think that Simmon's amazing playmaking/vision is of superior value to Ingram's shooting. It seems very unlikely that the 76ers will pass on Simmons.

Yeah, thing is Simmons can't shoot worth a damn. Might be worth trying to shoot right handed.
