Unsustainable shooting, but still, nice. Can you trust it in the playoffs? Probably not.

Since the percentages are better than Lillard's, yes, they are unsustainable... but that's not the point. He's showed this season that he is an elite 3 point shooter (43.7%, best on the team, by a lot, and on a significant 4.5 attempts per game in only 16.9 minute per game). He's also showed that he has other NBA skills, too.

The only question is his defense (he's not a PG, that's NOT a question :) ). My feeling is that he's improved his defense somewhat this year, but I'm interested on other people's takes on that.

I don't think we're benching the best 3FG shooter on the team in the playoffs. Hopefully, he'll show growth in the playoffs, too.

Can’t wait until Olshey justifies letting Powell walk by this hot stretch.

One of CJ,Powell (S&T) and Simons needs to be traded this summer. There’s no room for all three. Meanwhile we’ve got a shortage at the 4/5. Neil better not fuck around.
I think he will. He moved Trent probably thinking like you, one has to go. I think he will trade Nurk as well now that he's signed with Lebron James Inc.

He better not. You won’t find many centers better than him, not ones you can swap for at least. Why is being with Klutch a bad thing anyway? You know Olshey has known LeBron before he was even on the nba right? So what if they want their guys paid, so does every other agent.

Im not sure Id pay Nurk what they will be asking? Going to have to help win more than 1 playoff game out of ten played here, before he deserves the big contract.

The Blazers should force Simons to live in a hotel in Portland so he thinks are home games are road games.

...up until Dame demanded fans be let into the "Rose Garden" again I was actually thinking the entire team should treat home games like they are on the road (minus the flights). It might work :dunno:

All around guard who can shoot, play defense and has length on around a $20M contract.
Young guard with lots of potential, still raw, on a very inexpensive contract.
One dimensional guard on close to a max contract.

If you're keepiing 2 of the 3 to go with Dame, it seems fairly obvious, especially in a crowded, duplicative backcourt.

When you have a surplus you usually trade the one with the most value, not the least. But I don’t agree that CJ is the least valuable of the three.

I'm not sure I'm following your point here... I didn't see anywhere that anyone suggested that CJ had the least value.

CJ is better than Ant and has more value around the league for a trade. Ant just fits better as a backup player on this team than CJ does.

In a trade, CJ is under contract - but Norm is an UFA. Sign & Trades are possible, but not very likely. Again, due to the contract status - CJ has more value in a trade.

It's very consistent to say that trading CJ would be best for the team long term for a number of reasons...

What did this suggest then?

That trading CJ is the obvious choice.... which it is.

All it suggests is that Norm & Ant would be more valuable to the Blazers in their respective roles.
It doesn't suggest that they have move value league wide or in the trade market. CJ would have more value there - which again makes sense to trade him.

so a one dimensional player on near a max contract has value? How?

I like Powell more and more the more I watch him play. Dude is just all around solid and doesn't make many mistakes. With Ant improving to where he looks like he could be our best scoring threat coming off the bench, I think this might be the best time to trade CJ for an upgrade at other positions.

I still like the idea of philly and Portland working out something involving CJ and Simmons once both teams inevitably flame out of the playoffs lol.

I like the idea of me marrying Trish stratus but she didn't flame out and I did. :(

I could see a franchise that is tired in being in the lottery every fricken year so they might take a chance on CJ to add some veteran/leadership and swing for the playoffs. There is usually one or 2 teams every year that feel like this. Maybe some poor team will say hey it worked for the Suns, so let’s try.

I personally like it when I am given the opportunity to create a scenario that won't ever happen but also gives me a chance to complain that it didn't happen.

(not knocking you, just the weird mindset that fans get when it comes to trade possibilities that are completely unrealistic)

As long as it doesn’t involve Simons I’m good with it!

We see that, they don't. We gotta fleece them.
How do we see things in players other teams and scouts don't see? I would think maybe it's more that we don't see what other teams and scouts see. It's their job to see things right?

His improvement defensively the last month has honestly been shocking.

On the ball he's been far more disciplined in his technique. Had the bad habit that a lot of young players have of hopping in and out of his stance when he'd pressure the ball. You feel like your defending hard and with energy, but all you're doing is opening yourself up to get blown by or pick up fouls. Skilled handlers are too good sniffing out a frenetic/nervous defender and will catch you mid hop and and/or give you subtle fake to get you to switch your stance and attack that lead foot. He's been much more calm with his footwork and is now more prepared to show his hands and slide his feet + flip his hips, rather than being constantly out of position and having to drop his hands.

Off the ball, he's making rotations more consistently and aggressively. At his size he's never going to be super disruptive, especially on those sinks from the corner on bigs, but he's been so much more attentive and aware playing two on the weakside as the wing defender on drives towards the baseline. Closes have been great too on scramble and x out situations. Even has had a couple really nice instances of recognizes a teammate is beaten on a closeout and pulling over to pick that drive up and force an extra pass.

I know he's still super young, but even as an Ant optimistic I had gotten to the point of thinking that he wasn't ever going make it past being one of the worst defenders in the league (and for the season he still is) and maybe this is just a blip and he'll revert, but for now I think it's reasonable to think he can develop into simply a modest negative which if his offense continues to develop, will be huge for him moving forward.
