Herro rebounds at twice the rate as as Simons. If you are talking about a lineup with Grant, wouldn’t that be a key improvement?
He sure doesn't have Ant's wingspan....and I watched Herro play a couple of times and never thought he was a Josh Hart on the glass. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of either guy. Miami is trading him for a reason.

This question is key for me. And the answer is Simons. Although I do not like Ant as a true PG I do think he is better at running an offense than Herro. Maybe it's because Miami just hasn't allowed Herro to try to do it, but I doubt he can. So who do I think fits better with the 2nd unit when Scoot is on the bench.....it is Ant

Herro has a higher career assist rate than Ant, 18.3% vs 16.1%; and Herro has a higher career assist/100-possessions than Ant, 5.5 vs 5.0. And those numbers come after Ant has spent more than half his time at PG while Herro has spent 71% of his time at SG, and 6% at SF

when I brought that up before the argument was Ant played with Dame so he didn't get a lot of opportunity to run an offense. But Herro played with Butler (6 assists), Adebayo (5 assists), and Dragic (5.1 assists) his first two seasons. And Butler, Bam, Lowry, Gabe Vincent, and Oladipo the last two seasons. Miami had options for facilitation

I think saying Ant is better than Herro at running an offense is mostly assumption without evidence.

Personally I think Herro is better. However it would be hard for me to root for a dbag as big as Herro so I’m torn.

If Sharpe doesn’t start for some reason I do think Scoot/Herro is better than Scoot/Ant. Ant is just so one dimensional imo. Herro even seems better at D and I think he kinda sucks at it.

Agree Miami had multiple options for facilitation. So unless we change our offense I am sticking with Ant is needed more than Herro alongside SS or Scoot.

I agree about not being a huge fan of either, but I’d add that I’m not a big fan of them as starters. But, Sharpe and Scoot are are going to be starters within a year. As a backup, I think they are both pretty fantastic microwaves who can keep the second team scoring by themselves. Simons can distribute a bit better and Herro can rebound better.
I really like Simons and although I think Herro is generally thought of as a tad better, I would choose Simons. The thing I like most is he works to improve every year. Simons has never slipped backwards. He has supreme hops and length for his height, I’m guessing he’s guaranteed to look like a bargain by the end of his contract. Herro, I’m not so sure.

that's where we differ....I don't think either is needed

Well, that wasn't really the question that was asked in the OP in the thread. At least that is not how I interrupted it.
But if it was I would say we need at least one very good 3pt shooter on the team and both Ant and Herro fit that description.

as I said, to me, Ant simply represents more of the roster imbalance that the Blazers have had since 2015. 26M/year is a lot to pay for a 3 point floor spreader

These two dudes would both make for solid microwaves off the bench. I would lean to Ant though just because of the fact that he has some chemistry with Jaremi. Perhaps it also depends on what the trade market for Ant looks like? Also would Ant even buy into being a sixth man behind Scoot & shaedon? Ant is more of a veteran and has been on the team. Some players might not take a liking to that.
