Sixers possibly shopping #2 pick according to Ford

Yea what is interesting to me is that the Sixers have written off Brand already. Most of the folks here know due to the amount of knee injuries we have had on this team, that players do not hit their stride until their second year back from surgery. They are giving up on that guy way too early, he is still a good player.

They still owe $52.6M over the next 3 years for Brand. His contract is toxic.

I'll drink that toxic contract (with the #2 as a sweetener) and have the Joker smile for the next 3 years as Nic/Roy/Turner/Brand/Oden tear it up.

Brand isn't that bad. I would not be upset to see Aldridge dealt in a deal like this with us getting the #2.

Maybe I'm wrong but I've always seen Brand as more of a post player, wouldn't there be just a little bit too much overlap with Oden ... I mean, overlap when Oden's actually healthy and in the lineup?

No, you're right, but in the last couple of years he's been shooting more jumpers. He's not great at it when he does it (41%), but he's more a post player than can shoot a bit if needed rather than a jump-shooter who doesn't want to play the post. He's at his worst when he plays C. Fortunately we have Oden and Camby, so he'll always be a PF when he's on the floor.

A LaMarcus + change for Brand/#2 would be a Pritch-Slap of the highest magnitude

I agree, but why? It's not like Philly's not openly advertising it.

I wouldn't give them LMA to take on that much salary, for the #2. Just so we can play Roy out of position. I'd give them expirings for the pick, with assets like Rudy and picks/euros, and look to move the #2 elsewhere. POssibly for a PG.

LMA and # 2 for #1? :)

We're not playing Roy out of position. He'll guard the 3rd-best of the 1/2/3 from the other team, and all three of Batum/Roy/Turner can handle the ball. So Roy can do exactly what he wants--except that instead of having Blake and Webster or Miller and Batum next to him, he can have Turner and Batum and dare some team to double-team someone.

I don't think the difference between Turner and Wall is that much.

And with Roy/Turner/Nic all having decent ball handling and good passing ability, all three wouldn't be playing out of position too much. The only trouble I see here potentially would be on D. But if Nic is healthy and improves, I think he can be an excellent PG defender.

I have a feeling this is one of those ideas that looks better on paper than it actually looks like on the court ... don't get me wrong, I think Turner is a helluva player and having 3 guys 6'6", 6'7" and 6'9" as your ballhandling backcourt is mind boggling in terms of the kind of matchup nightmare you'd create for an opponent at both ends of the court, but the only one of the bunch that I would call a knockdown perimeter shooter is Batum and that's only with a very small sample of regular season games.

Just thinking out loud here, but isn't it possible that Turner and Roy would overlap too much in terms of style for either one to be at maximum effectiveness? The first possible solution that springs to mind would be to implement a motion based offense that takes full advantage of Roy and Turner's ball-handling skills (Nic's aren't too bad either) otherwise I think spacing could become a real issue.

I think that of all three, Roy's the "weak link" in terms of long-range shooting, and I'm more than fine with that.

We've been saying for a while that the best player to play with Roy in the backcourt would be someone like Roy--can handle the ball, knock down open shots, get to the rim when other players are doubled, etc.

I love your idea of the motion offense, but I don't think it's going to happen with the current coaching staff. Substituting Turner for Andre would help the team even more than if we did get Wall, imo.

Turner has some decent highlight vids on Youtube.

Just got me more excited.

But can KP pull off a big move? He's been on a massive cold streak since the Roy/Aldridge draft in terms of big moves.

Alright, let's go crazy. Send Oden/Joel/Rudy to Philly for Brand/#2. Fire Nate and bring in Tom Thibodeau as head coach with Eddie Jordan as lead (offensive) assistant. Run Princeton offense and Thibodeau defense. Primary 8-man rotation of Miller/Bayless/Roy/Turner/Batum/Brand/Aldridge/Camby.

^No thank you. Replace LMA with Oden, and you're talking.

Can Turner play PG full time? I know he played PG/SG at Ohio State but I really don't like the idea of moving Batum to the bench. But then again, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here. I think landing the #2 pick is a long shot.

Princeton offense requires big men to be able to shoot from outside. We have no indication that Oden can, but we know LA can.

I think you have to look at it not in terms of "labels", but "roles".

We've already talked about how Roy would be guarding the 3rd worst of a team's 1/2/3. Batum would guard the best--whether CP3 or Deron Williams or Carmelo or K*be or whoever. Turner gets the middle guy.

On offense, both Turner and Batum have the handles to bring the ball up if Roy doesn't want to. Roy's going to be the primary P&R/P player, with Turner and Batum spacing on the wings or able to run around in a mid-range game or cut to the hoop (all are good finishers). You don't need to say "Turner can't play PG b/c he can't dish like Deron Williams or guard CP3" or "he'd get crushed by 'Melo or K*be, so he has to play 2 behind Roy for 12 mpg".

We could do the jump thing....LMA and Rudy for Love and #4, followed by Przy/Miller/4 for Brand/#2. They'd get either Cousins or Favors to replace Brand.

I don't see Minnesota giving up Love and the 4 for LA, but that Oden/Camby/Love/Brand frontcourt would be very nice.

I wouldn't move Aldridge for Turner. If Turner turns out to be better than Batum I'll be surprised, and I don't think there's any way we could play Batum/Roy/Turner in the starting five together.

I wouldn't taking on Brand to GET the #2 and using it on Turner, but not giving up Aldridge, also.

I agree with this. The only reason to move up to the top 3 in the draft would be to get Wall or Cousins.
