Sixers possibly shopping #2 pick according to Ford

I wouldn't move Aldridge for Turner. If Turner turns out to be better than Batum I'll be surprised, and I don't think there's any way we could play Batum/Roy/Turner in the starting five together.

I wouldn't taking on Brand to GET the #2 and using it on Turner, but not giving up Aldridge, also.

Ed O.

Agreed, if they want to move Brand with the #2, they can't expect talent like LMA back in return. Connecting Brand with the pick is diminishing its value.

And I wouldn't take Turner, either. I just don't see anyone trotting out Turner, Roy, Batum as our starters. I think I'd offer up the 2 and matching salaries to Memphis for Mayo and their pick. I think Mayo at the 1 in our offense would fit better than Turner.

Something like we get Mayo, Brand and Lou Williams, give up Joel, Andre, Rudy, Martell, Bayless and #22.

Memphis gives up Mayo and #12 for #2 and Martell.

Philly gives up Brand, Lou Williams and #2 for #12, 22, Joel, Andre, Rudy and Bayless.

Meh, not gonna happen.

So we're talking about blowing up the bulk of our team is some of these scenarios. I don't really see that happening, unless.....

KP is gone.

In which case, I could see someone like Warkentein coming in here and trying to put his stamp on the team immediately. Warkentein LOVED Zach Randolph and Al Jefferson when he was scouting for the Blazers. I could absolutely see him trading up to take Cousins, who seems like a similar player to me. I would swap LMA and Prz for Brand and Cousins. I think adding a healthy Brand and a talented Cousins to back him up, makes us a potent team next year. If Brand goes down, Cousins starts. No big deal.

Miller/Bayless
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster
Brand/Cousins
Oden/Camby

I think that's a very good basketball team. We gain some inside scoring, we get a healthy Roy, Oden, and Batum back in the fall (fingers crossed), and we can still make a deal involving Rudy if we need to. I like the trade, and if Warkentein takes over, I could very easily see it happening. It all just depends on who is captaining this franchise in a couple months.

If they do get Brand I hope we hear all about Elton Brands Expiring Contract for an entire year.

He should just put EBEC on his uni.

Brand certainly looked good against the Blazers.

It's not worth giving up LaMarcus, though. Why is everyone so down on him? He's incredibly versatile, a very solid team defender, and an ideal player next to Oden.

I don't think we have what it takes. You know who might? OKC. Because they can just absorb Brand's contract into their capspace. Philly wants to cut salary.

(I also wonder if Doug Collins' hire changes things. I can see him wanting to see if he can get more out of Brand before moving him. Coaches are much more likely to want a seasoned vet like Brand than some project.)

Here's the ceiling of what I would offer:
Camby, Miller, Webster, Joel's contract and assorted non-salaried goodies (rights to Freeland/Claver? Future picks?) plus possibly Rudy or Bayless
for
#2, Brand, Dalembert

(I think that works salary-wise but you can't use TradeMachine to check it)

I think Doug Collins would love that (Miller and Camby) and Philly would win enough to make the playoffs and bring the fans back, which they really need to.
For us we would be shafting Camby and Miller (and I wonder how Miller would feel about going back to the team that was too cheap to sign him) and taking a risk without both, but I both Dalembert and Brand can play C for us alongside LaMarcus, and their games are much more suited to Nate's plodding ways than to the systems that were used in Philly.

Joel + Bayless + Martell for Brand works. I think this would give us the best possibility of moving forward. We would have awesome depth.

Miller
Roy. Rudy
Batum, Turner
LMA, Brand
Camby, Oden

I'd pull the trigger on a Brand & #2 for LaMarcus trade. We might have to throw in some of Pryz/Martell/Rudy to make the salaries match.

Even though Brand is owed over $51 million the next 3 years, LaMarcus is owed over $35 million, plus he has two additional years for another $29 million. So the salaries arn't terribly different. Don't get me wrong LaMarcus is a better player and a better value, but I think the #2 pick is worth more than LA on his own. Brand is an acceptable PF, he just can't carry a 76ers team as the #2 option, but if he just has to be one of the top 7 players on the team he'll do fine.

Turner would be awesome on this team and I believe he could play well with Roy. Turner is the best player in this trade and I'm always in favor of trades that send the best player to Portland.

There is no way Philly trades the #2 pick if the best player they get back is Bayless. Might as well try to trade Cunningham for Iggy....

I don't really see how Turner and Roy would play together, and I know Roy wouldn't approve. Just give him a damn PG that can defend and shoot the 3, while being a better ball handler and passer than Blake.

Conley might fit that, but I think the Blazers can do better.

Explain to me why we'd give up a very good, versatile, young PF AND take on a MASSIVE contract for a possibly terminally damaged player just to get a swingman when we already have Roy and Batum? It'd be like trading LaMarcus for Joe Johnson. Why would that improve us?

Turner's probably the best defensive guard in the draft.
We already have a player that defends good PGs. His name's Batum.
Turner's a pretty good shooter from distance.
Why wouldn't Roy want to play with someone like that, again?
nAnd if we could trade LaMarcus for Joe Johnson and a starting PF for 20M total salary, i'd do that too. Joe Johnson might be exactly the type of guard Roy can play with.

Getting Joe Johnson would be huge for Roy. Roy idolizes Johnson and could help him learn some tricks etc.

But we're not getting Johnson so it doesn't even matter.

I would trade LaMarcus for Joe Johnson in a heartbeat.

Having Clyde and Jordan on the same team might have reduced some of their stats, but that's the kind of problem I'd love to have.

If Turner turns out to be better than Batum I'll be surprised

Prepare too be the only person surprised on the planet.

Batum is a nice role player, but Turner is a legit slasher that can create his own shot and dish the ball amazingly well for a PG/SG.

While I'd be happy to experiment with things like a Batum/Roy/Turner or Batum/Roy/Joe Johnson or Batum/Roy/Iguodala perimeter (assuming any of those three players were obtainable for a price Portland would be willing to pay) and just let match-ups dictate defensive assignments, you have to realize NBA teams just aren't going to be that unconventional. Maybe for good reasons, maybe for bad, but they're extremely risk averse, IMO. Teams are quite unwilling to deviate from the classic PG/classic SG/classic SF/classic PF/classic C formula.

Roy and Turner not only have very similar games, they are eerily similar in size, too:

Evan Turner
6'5.75" w/o shoes
6'7" w/shoes
6'8" wingspan

Brandon Roy
6'5.25" w/o shoes
6'6.25" w/shoes
6'8" wingspan

But, will Turner match Roy's max vertical of 41-inches?
