Skull of Homo erectus throws story of human evolution into disarray

Baboons and Chimps and Humans exist today. What's hard to get about various species of apes co-existing in the past?

Just wondering how the other species became extinct. Like did modern man kill them off; or did they evolve to extinction

Evolution. Their ability to survive failed in whatever the environment was. If you have two species that eat the same things and one is really efficient at hunting those things, the other species could starve to death.

Catastrophe. When all the animals of a species lives in a small area and it burns or floods or freezes, etc., they all could die. This is what is believed to have happened to the clovis people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clovis_culture

I believe that more than over hunting the mammoth. You would assume they would just change their diet.

Well I'm taking a year break and see how it fares. I had a really bad trip the last time and thought a break was due.

You realized you had an issue when you drove to Vegas to help your supposedly-ailing mom, but then you later realized you were just tripping balls, and it all started with a story on Animal Planet about a labrador and hip dysplasia in the desert?

Could be the reason why I wasn't able to find my mom at the hospital?

The better hunter gatherers starve the others. We homo sapiens are smart enough to farm, while those other guys picked and ate all the berries until there was nothing but dead plants.

Still you can hunt other foods right? I mean mammoths aren't the only animals to eat right?

Homo erectus did not exist at the same time as we did, so it wouldn't have been us that competed with them and won. You do have to consider that as humans evolved, our brains grew bigger and to the point we could be smart enough to farm or hunt something else.

It's also possible that they simply evolved into something else - like us and neanderthals.

Where are the babylonians today? The Maya?

I was looking at your chart and they overlapped. Also, you brought up chimps; but they aren't a part of the homo family right? What difference do they make in this scenario?

Mayans, Babylonians and other lost tribes where of the same species as us Denny. I don't understand why you brought them up.

Mayans, Baylonians, etc., are gone, but coexisted with other peoples. What happened to them is likely what happened to Homo erectus - they blended in with other populations.

We are apes, chimps are apes. We exist at the same time, so it's not hard to accept that other kinds of apes have existed at the same time all along. Including our predecessors.

I guess we are a bunch of homos

Mags, what Denny is trying to tell you is that "blending" means is his ancestors would fuck anything.

You're forgetting I've met your kids.

The creator probably took many steps to get todays man. No doubt it involved knuckle head
waking up next to his latest and thinking Holy shit! This can't be right! I better cut back on the Akadoma.

Doh!!!!! You're right! I do remember them saying you looked like Patrick Ewing

For everyone else who is reading this thread I would like to set the record straight. Yes, I've met Mag's kids. His daughter is very pretty and his sons are handsome young men. In other words they look nothing like Mags.

If a Neanderthal walked a little upright and his friends made fun of him, did he say "No Homo Erectus?"
