Married Oregonian editor Robert J. Caldwell dies while sex with woman who is not wife
Sounds like a movie but it’s not….
A married 63-year-old newspaper editor died while having sex with a 23-year-old woman in her apartment.
Reports say Robert J. Caldwell, the editor of the editorial pages of The Oregonian, was having sex with a woman in her Tigard, Oregon, apartment on Saturday when all of a sudden he went into cardiac arrest.
The unnamed woman called 911 and Caldwell was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
His newspaper, which is based in Portland, announced his death claiming that he suffered a heart attack in his car. They later retracted their story after the woman told police that she had sex with the newspaper man in exchange for him buying her school supplies.
Because money was not exchanged on Saturday, police did not charge her with prostitution.
Caldwell was president of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association, the Oregon Newspaper Foundation and the Western Oregon chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
He also served as editor-in-residence for two daily newspapers in Romania and was a consultant for other publications in the Balkans.
Caldwell is survived by his wife, Lora Cuykendall, a former journalist, three daughters, Beth, Kate and Ellie Caldwell; his mother Barbara; four brothers, Mike, Kevin, Pete and Pat.
