I've been contemplating buying a small, memory-stick based (or internal HD) camcorder. Something very small...

I was thinking a Flip Mino HD

http://www.amazon.com/Flip-Video-Mi...OFI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1232567902&sr=8-1

or a Sony "Webbie"

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MHSCM1-D...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1232567920&sr=1-3

thoughts on either of these? Leaning more towards the webbie, just wish they had better colours for them.

The pros for the flip is that its tiny, i can probabably take to sporting events and shit without hassles.

the pros for the sony is that it probably takes better pictures, there's zoom and removable memory.

thoughts?

both around $200

woot is usually the cheapest you will find for whatever product they are selling

Camcorders are moving in two directions at the moment: Bigger more traditional ones are recording to large solid-state drives, while the cheap pocket "youTube" camcorder is getting better video quality. Sony's latest offerings slide into that second slot.

The MHS-PM1 brings a smattering of Sony's highly-polished design thinking to the pocket camcorder: The gizmos actually do look pretty sweet and feature a rotating lens element at the top so you can hold the camcorder at whatever angle you please.

The other contender in the Webbie range, the MHS-CM1, is a slightly more traditional shape but features a 5x optical zoom versus the PM1s fixed-focus lens, and a small flip-out viewing LCD.

Both have sensors close to 5-megapixels for still imagery, and both capture 1440 by 1080-pixel video at 30 fps--nearly, but not quite, full HD resolution. They encode in H.264 format so the videos don't take up too much space, and are instantly compatible with many an online video-sharing site. In fact Sony's bundling software onto the cameras that takes your vids instantly to Shutterfly, Picasa, YouTube, Dailymotion and Photobucket.

Webbie came in today..here's a quick test I shot at lunch...not the greatest...make sure to go to youtube and watch in HD

Nice- exactly what I've been looking to purchase for some video footage up on the Mountain when snowboarding.

Thanks for the linkage and review stuff as well as the little tester there.

its pretty small and cheap...takes 5MP pics but not the best....will need to do more testing though.

how do you use it? do you save your vids on computer or upload to youtube and let them store em'?

does it work good in bars and shit? better than a camera...hate busting those out. this is more incognito.

should do something other than cars. oh well.....there's a waterproof one at costco now....Xacti....might get that....for pool parties in vegas. did some with my digicam, quality came out kind of assy.

i'm going to find a dashboard mountable tripod (well, not tri I guess..monopod). I saw one at best buy but it was too tall....sure i can find one online so i can record me driving into certain places.

been using this flip for a few weekends, its really great. no need to carry a camcorder. sometimes bumpy but fuck it, works well enough. upload to youtube random shit...more personal shit I upload to flickr, where i can control privacy a bit better.
