I'm interested in what Peyton Manning's stats are for that, and then the same drill for Todd Marinovich, Andre Ware and Duante Culpepper (who I think is a better comparison than Roethlisberger, down to the inflated stats from throwing bombs to Randy Moss/Steve Smith).

Gut feel is that it's tough to project greatness after 3 games.

Another thing to remember about both Elway and Manning is that both were 4 year starters in college, and both played in a pro-style offense in college.

Cam Newton started for 1 season in major college football from a shot-gun spread, played in a similar offense at Florida and Blinn, and has learned a pro-style offense well enough without any OTAs because of the lock-out to become an "average" NFL starting QB.

It's actually more impressive to me after I researched Elway and Manning, since both were #1 overall picks as well, and seeing how bad they were early in their rookie campaign.

Carolina is going to have to rebuild their running game, or Newton will never be able to fully develop as a QB or even make it through this season. 3.3 ypc makes any QB less effective and means more attention can be given to the passing game.

Randy Moss in his prime is a lot better than an off-peak Steve Smith. Smith and Newton's peaks won't coincide anyway.

As for Big Ben I would say Newton is a lot more gifted than Ben. I don't think many people can argue with that, but Newton's accuracy still needs work. He identified the right reads against Jacksonville but his accuracy was off. The monsoon was a large factor as well, that was crazy.

This is pretty much it. You do have to adjust for era though, rules are a little friendlier now. That's why Brady's 2010 season was not rated higher with Total QBR.

He made some nice throws yesterday, but everyone knew he had an arm. Yesterday he was on his game with where to put the ball, and who to throw to. No turnovers is big.

I'm not a big fantasy guy...do INTs work against your score? If he would've thrown 2 picks with the otherwise same stats, would he have had 29 points?

BTW...I don't care how crappy Tim Tebow looked, I'd trade almost anyone on Seattle's roster for him.

Cam "God" Newton had a total quarterback rating that was good enough to rank him 29th out of 32 QB's this past weekend. LOL

For the season he has a 57.5 Total QBR rating, higher than Rivers and 14th in the NFL.

Nice try hating on him, but the guy is an amazing rookie.

38 fantasy points for me from Newton in my championship round. Barring a horrible game by both Julio Jones and Michael Turner tomorrow, I win my league almost solely because I drafted Cam Newton.

He broke Peyton Manning's rookie record for yards as well, and accounted for 34 TDs on his own via pass or rush.

It's easily the greatest rookie QB season in the modern NFL era. No one else comes close in terms of stats.

I drafted him in the last round as a joke. I had Phillip Rivers as my starter, and Jay Cutler as the back-up. Cutler never was in my line-up, and Rivers got benched somewhere around Week 5 or 6.

It takes a full year for teams to implement a defense specifically designed to stop a player. Teams can't do it week in and week out as effectively.

So, what I am trying to say is just like Vince Young, who had a very good rookie year, defenses figured him out and he floundered. A lot like Newton is doing this year
