So: how will you feel if it's Caldwell-Pope?

So at the present moment, would you take all those over Leonard? Since he is a miserable fail and all. LOL if you say yes to White.

I think

Lamb
Henson
Harkless
Moultre
Nicholson

will all be better pros long term than Leonard

The others I am not as sure about.

I think it is one year too early to have that conversation. We need to see what Leonard works on this summer. In mid-season if he looks the same as last year, then I would agree.

Henson is the one, in particular, that several people said at the time, and who looks to be exactly what we would have needed from that pick.

That said, I was on board with Leonard and still am.

If Leonard had showed any indication in college for playing an ounce of defense or an offensive post game, I might be able to be swayed. That wasn't the case, however.

His name is obscure enough that I can talk endlessly at the local pub about him and seem worldly.

He doesn't bring much that Wes doesn't already bring. Dave at B-Edge has a good post on this. I'm warming to the idea but what are you going to do with Wes?

To me it is more like what are you going to do with Barton. At 220 Wes will get 15 minutes a game at SF plus 20 minutes at SG. No matter which SG the Blazers choose to draft (If any) Wes will play.

Barton, the draft pick and Lillard will get the remainder.

Barton surprised at the end of the year but if we do pick a SG at #10 then he will be better than Barton right out of the gate and would get the minutes over him imo.

Assuming Barton does not improve this summer.....Is Barton one of those guys who will keep working hard to get better? I think there is a possibility that he is. But the Blazers have to assume that he isn't the answer at SG and find someone else. If Barton improves a lot, then great we have another asset to keep or trade.

But then there is the center spot to worry about.....

I wouldn't like it.

I've watched him probably 5 times this last month or so (espn3 replays) and I don't see it with this guy. Even his best game at LSU didn't impress me that much. Anybody who watched the game saw that he was simply rising over sub 6' guys and got hot.

He has mediocre size with nice leaping ability but only shows it off in transition as he's not elusive enough in the half court. Put in pnr's a fair amount but doesn't really show much craftiness here where he normally tries to just speed dribble in attempt to turn the corner, not really utilizing any sort hesitation moves or change of speed.

Overall, he just seems rigid and lacking a feel for the game. And like it has been said before, his skill set doesn't vary much from what we already have at the two spot.

I've come to the point that I just don't think we should use this pick on an SG, especially the ones available at this area of the draft and that SG is not a big team weakness, we need bigs and there are bigs available that are just as likely BPA as are these SG's, and please don't give me a BPA argument when mock drafts are all over the place on who goes from the 8-9 spot all the way to a 15 - it's a fukkin crap shoot

Wing players I would prefer over KCP:

Allen Crabbe: he has an elite skill that we lack in shooting. He can't create his own shot, but with him and Lillard we'd have the Poor Man's Splash Bros. Plus he's got absurd wingspan and uses that to good effect playing D.
Jamaal Franklin: his motor is ridiculous, he rebounds like a fool and his college coach, who had Kawhi Leonard, basically said he was the hardest working player he ever had.

Neither of them is ranked above the 20s, but I'd still prefer them to what I've read about KCP. His only saving grace is how young he is. But if we're drafting a young guard on potential, then it's Dennis Schroeder all the way.

But he does not play D and he has a highly questionable attitude and work ethic.

Really? I hadn't heard that. Where did you hear that? Pretty amazing that he was Pac-10 freshman of the year, all Pac-12 in his sophomore year, and Pac-12 player of the year in his junior year, then. Imagine how could he could be with a work ethic!

Kostas P. has developed into an elite shooter. If we bring him over I think you go big at #10.

While I am also in the KP fanclub, I don't think he can play guard, and I think he's more of a spot-up than a coming-off-screens-like-Rip-Hamilton shooter. But I agree, I would take Dieng before Crabbe every time. Crabbe would just be if we buy a pick in the 20s.

I agree -- he's strictly a SF. This draft is the easiest to trade up in years. Why not swing big and trade up for Len?

I was wrong about his work ethic. I guess it is good. But I have never seen him play much D and I often saw Montgomery being pissed about it. But he can shoot.....

I like Crabbe's shooting as most everyone does. Pope plays way better D though and can shoot almost as well.

I've always been a big Crabbe fan. Would love if we took him. I think at #10 it might be reaching though.

IMO we aren't draftin an SG or a wing with #10, we go big or go home (trade it)

I can see trade. Not so sure I see a big man though. Unless you a trading Leonard. I don't think there is enough playing time to develop both Leonard and another young Center behind our (presumed) stud big man that Olshey is saying that he is going to provide.

less than excited if its pope, he just seems like martell webster to me (occasional 20 point game, usually 6-12 points)
