But I guess the pain of seeing our team lose in that fashion makes only the doom-and-gloom threads come out.

"Oden sucks...let's get Durant". I'm not sure I saw where he didn't stay with his man all night. I'm pretty sure I saw him play an animated first half, with one foul, some nice P&R plays, active on D. He's still getting mugged without getting the foul (and though Bob Delaney was calling a "fair" game, it was a very "no-touchie" game), and getting 3 fouls in 2 minutes or so would probably take him out of his game.

Nate needs to have another "no switching on screens" practices. Blake'll turn over another bench (adding to the 9 TO's in the last 2 games), maybe someone will get into a fight and we can commence winning 13 in a row.

Our favorite PG punching bag was shredding Dallas's D, making layups, floaters, and 3's, staying with his man, taking what the D gave him, and got pulled for Blake pretty quickly.

I thought Sergio was playing pretty well and never saw him again, what happened?

Sergio had a nice game for sure. One of the bright spots tonight. It's too bad he didn't get more run down the stretch.

He went in and the Mavs immediately went on a run. He picked up two stupid fouls in transition and got rightly yanked.

I missed a bit in the second half, so this was that horrible that his good play in the first half didn't merit some slack?

He was good in the first half but like Craig said two fouls including one at the start of the 4th. Considering that Blake was actively hurting us by letting Barrea blow by him for rebounds giving Sergio a chance would have been nice.

I hate Nate's"I show them" attitude. Like posted earlier, Jose hurt us in the 4th and he did not readjust or make a move. I would give Bayless or Sergio a few minutes to see if he could slow him or take him on the offensive end.
Bottom line, we need a new coach...

We are winning games on talent not with smarts or adjustments. I don't want to blame all of our losses or give them credit for our lucky wins, but if you do not see a pattern here you are blind. Wins-TOR,SA,NY,HOU,DEN Losses-Clippers, Orlando, both Utah games.

Nate's affinity with certain players like Blake & Outlaw bugs me...he gives them plenty of leeway to make mistakes but then yanks other players like Sergio for a few mistakes...I can see why Sergio is frustrated...

Thankfully he hasn't started pulling Rudy for those types of mistakes yet....

YET is the operative word here.

Nate must go.

Sergio got 2 fouls because unlike Roy and Blake (who combined for 1 foul) he actually played defense.

Our 2 best defensive guards are both Spanish and I'm all for starting them and giving them the bulk of PT.

LaMarcus got 3 shots this game. Nice job of getting him the ball there Blake/Roy.

The Blake/Roy 2 man game bores me to tears, does not come with defense included, and leaves our better shooters gathering dust.

The only stupid thing Sergio did last night was the foul before the ball was inbounded. Other than that - he had a solid game.

grass is greener huh?

I hate that fucking cliche so bad. Like the grass isn't ever greener somewhere else?

Or hindsight is 20-20. Sure as FUCK is, but maybe the guy who was right BEFORE we found out in hindsight should get a chance to make some decisions.

PJ is available!

I like my coaches like I like my tires.

New.

Retreads need not apply. In a profession where you make millions of dollars, tough shit if you get a bad break and don't succeed. Go work at Wendy's PJ. Give someone else a chance, hopefully someone who has a brilliant mind. There are people out there.

LN,Sergio was OK on an individual basis, but every time he goes in the game, the Blazers lose ground. Why? Defense. Anything he does on one end, he gives up on the other. It is almost comical. Seriously, I challenge all you Sergio lovers: Look at the score when Sergio goes in, and when he goes out. Watch the improvement in our defense when ANYONE replaces him. I was at the game last night, great seats. I saw him getting lost on D. For every turnover he gambles to create, he allows a layup or a pass to an open man.

Defense with Sergio on the floor= Blazers playing 4 on 5.

I am not blaming the loss on him at all, in face he was better than usual last night. I am only stating: The only way Sergio becomes an effective player is if he plays in a Mike D'Antoni (sp?) system.

While I'd tend to agree with you, none of our PGs did a damn thing last night defensively, so you can't pin it on Sergio.

I didn't pin the loss on Rodriguez:

I am not blaming the loss on him at all, in fact he was better than usual last night.

Nobody played great D last night, although Roy was trying and was at least average. Outlaw was better than normal for him (at least against a guy slow enough for him to handle-Nowitzki).

All I am saying is, this is not a very good defensive team, and Sergio might be our worst defender.

Alright, my bad. Guess I focused on that first paragraph and the 4v5 thing too much heh. Good points. It sucks when you know some of the guys are doing everything they can defensively, and it's still not happening from a team standpoint due to weak links. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Sergio for exactly that reason.

Yeah, I agree. It's not that I hate Sergio- it's just that, while he is exciting to watch at times, I don't think he fits in the current system.

Nate is kind of annoying sometimes. So last night he thought Sergio wasn't playing good defense. So he didn't play him in the second half. And now he's thinking about playing Bayless?

Why didn't he play Bayless in the 2nd half last night, then? Does he really need to think so hard about who the next point guard behind Sergio is? Or does he think Bayless is unable to play w/o 24 hours notice?

"Yeah, the pick-and-roll ...'' I said, noting the Blazers' team-wide problem that night. But before I could finish, McMillan was already shaking his head. "No, just defense period,'' McMillan said. "He has to play better defense.''

Nate seems blind to the obvious, that nobody on his team except Joel is consistently playing good defense. If he's laying the blame on 1, 2 or 3 bench guys we're never going to see improvement from the starters, and that's where we need it come playoff time.

I was at the Dallas game and Sergio seemed to have a nice game - especially with the offense - but I watched the game again on the DVR (painful experience) - and paid more attention to Sergio's D - and it was right - the Mavs went on a big run with him in the game.

Sorry for the repost: Here are the details of that "Run"
Sergio comes in at 3:21 left in the first. 24-18 Mavs. He's guarding Kidd for 2 minutes, then Barea comes in at :48. Neither one scores or gets an assist for the rest of the first quarter, and we cut from a 6pt lead to a 4pt lead. Sergio has a 3, the amazing assist to Rudy, a layup and sets up Joel for his 2 FTs. So how does he have a bad rating ?

Then, to start the second, Sergio again scores a layup. Then another one. Then the man he's guarding gets the first points or assists in 7 minutes of play when Barea gets a rebound and layup. Sergio then comes out. We're now down 43-33. How can that be? Well, I'm glad you asked. I know Sergio is the whipping boy right now, but perhaps Nate should rethink his idea of having Frye and Outlaw out there at the forward spots at the same time. B/c here's what happened for Dallas around those timeframes...2FTs by Terry, Howard 3, Nowitzki 2, 2 buckets by Singleton, a Wright 3. AND: Travis 0-3, Frye 0-1, Rudy 1-2, Joel Travel, Sergio Bad Pass. But I'm sure it's all the fault of Sergio and his disgusting defense.

FFwd to the 4th quarter. 80-77 good guys, Sergio comes in, immediately commits the foul on Barea. Then Rudy is 0-1, Travis 0-1, Roy 0-2. Meanwhile, DAL goes miss by Terry, miss by Barea (Sergio's guy), make by Nowitzki, make by Bass. Sergio leaves with it 81-80 them.

So to recap: when Sergio was in the game he was 4-4, 9pts, 1 turnover. The man he was guarding was 1-4 with 0 assists. His teammates were 1-10, 2-4 FTs and 1 turnover, while the other team (aside from Sergio's man) were 6-12. Must've been Sergio's disgusting defense. Couldn't be that teammates were missing shots, getting lit up on their own by leaving their men open (and I'm looking at you, Rudy, Travis and Frye).

By all means, replace that loser Sergio with Bayless. Then maybe Travis and Frye will play defense. Maybe then they'll hit shots.

Sorry for the repost: Here are the details of that "Run"

Your details of the run forget the following:

1. Before even 1 second of play Sergio fouls Jason Terry (before they inbound the ball) - the Mavs score 2 points.
2. Kidd going around Sergio, Roy rotating forcing a pass to Jason Terry, Joel has to run over to him and foul. Terry sinks two shots.
3. At the 10:41 Sergio with a bad pass on the break

That's 3 mistakes by Sergio in the first half, 2 of them defensive.

I am too tired to re-live the loss of the 4th quarter lead with Sergio in the game - so I am not going to re-watch it again...

Blake did not have a good defensive game - but it looked better than Sergio in this re-run of the game that I just watched. There is a reason Sergio had the worst +/- - he did not create offense enough to offset his defense.

Add the fact that Travis played all the minutes that Sergio was on the court - and since he finished with a -7 for the game - it means that he was +3 next to Blake. Same with Rudy - played all the minutes that Sergio did and finished with -8 - so he was +2 next to Blake...

Yes, Frye was bad (big surprise) - but he only played next to Sergio for about 1/2 of Sergio's minutes - so it's not all on Outlaw (who was + next to Blake) or Frye (Frye was not in the game in the 2nd quarter when we went from +3 to -1 during Sergio's brief run.
