I was under the impression, though, that there's no "significant" player in the upcoming 2009 free agency market that KP is realistically interested in. Rather, that he would potentially get his man via a trade (most likely involving Raef)?

I suppose it all depends on how consistent Marvin can be this season. I've put him on my list of players to watch throughout the year.

I think he may have a chance at the deadline to get signed by a playoff team that thinks they are missing a peice or two if he continues to work hard and improve his conditioning and rebuild his game from that of a Slasher/SF to more of a PF banger around the rim player.

I'm just curious what your definition of a "reduced deal" is. AI and Marion are each going to be hunting for $10+mil per year and Artest will at least demand an MLE type of deal. As for Kidd...he could still be looking at another contract worth $8-10 mil or so too, depending on how this season shakes out.

If your definition of "reduced deal" is the type of deals that Malone and GP took a couple years back to join LA, you're crazy, because those guys aren't going to take that kind of a paycut.

Marvin Williams has been most successful as the SF. I believe he had to slip over to PF in the absence of Josh Smith.

So far his over 16 PER has been because of his production at SF.

The more I think about Marvin Williams the more it makes sense. I remember Pritchard, or at least there being rumors that Pritchard, was high on him.

Even as young as he is he's becoming known as quite the defender. I'm seeing him defend the better perimeter players for the Hawks it seems like anymore. His one knock has been his outside shot. He's currently shooting over 50% from deep. He was already one of the best midrange shooters.

I can't get past the thought that he was born up in Washington and most likely is chums with Brandon and Martell.

i think that vets will be very willing to come here at some sort of paycut in the now and forseeable future for the chance to play with LMA/roy/Oden/rudy.

those particular players dont even necessarily intrigue me at this point though.

It has been apparent for over a year now that KP intends to bring Kobe here, no matter what the cost.

Not really. He's much bigger. He takes the ball to the hole more frequently. Much more aggressive personality on the court. He's not nearly the 3-ball threat that Martell is. However, he's showing this season that he's very capable of shooting the long ball. More versatile forward IMO. Doesn't quite have the handles I'd like for my SF, but if he can get free of his man and he's got any sort of driving lane, the dude is going to jam it down your throat.

His problem has been consistency. Hopefully they can play him more at the SF as soon as Smith gets back.

and that's what would suck. we would have to either a) overpay to pry him away or b) work out a sign-and-trade.

So my question to you or anyone else. If Marvin continues to improve, to say the level that Josh Smith got to last year, would you offer the same contract that Smith got, and would Atlanta match that in a heartbeat?

Absolutely! We've got more jump shooting specialists than you can shake a stick at on this roster, so I don't want to hear any more of this crap about "we need a 3 that can spread the defense," that's what Rudy, Blake, Travis and Lamarcus are for (LMA not a three point threat, but a great 17-20' mid range shooter).

For the sake of argument though, what about a SF that can both shoot from outside and take it to the hole?

I mean if we're having our pick of the best player to add to our team why not go all out and select one with fewer weaknesses.
