It has always been this way. Most of the forum falls into three categories.

1. The homer - unable to see anything critical about the team.

2. The realist - usually someone that can see the good and the bad.

3. The cynic - usually someone that's negative all the time.

It has always been this way. The homers are usually the most annoying because they lash out at anyone that doesn't see the way that they do.
I don't know, I think I might be a homer, but it's not because I can't see the negatives. I just don't usually have a desire to post about them because it's not fun. Sometimes I get sucked in to being critical or arguing but most of the time I realize it's just not worth it to me and has no use. Other times I wonder why I even visit this forum again/still. That's not to say I think I'm a better fan than others, on the contrary I often wonder lately if I'm as much of a fan as others who are clearly more emotionally invested than me. Maybe I'm just apathetic, I really don't know.

I know you don't like Olshey, Stotts, or CJ so your post is quite confusing.

Fans should've been okay with the team going from the WCF to a lottery team because of the moves? Shouldn't the expectation have been to grow upon last year's success? I don't believe this team is as bad as they are even with the injuries so I don't see a problem with questioning why they so bad this year and being frustrated after seeing success to see this team take a massive step backwards.

to be precise, I'm generally ambivalent about Stotts. And yeah, I'm not a fan at all, of Olshey or CJ

but I've been really clear that I thought all the chatter about making it to the WCF was overrating the team, and ignoring that they got swept in the WCF. Several times I've mentioned I thought the yardstick for this team was not making it to the playoffs, but how they've been bounced from the playoffs for 4 straight years. A 1-16 record and 14 straight losses in those close0ut series says a lot more than 4 straight playoff appearances.

so yeah, I started the off-season with a lot lower expectations than most, and I thought the off-season generally sucked because I was not impressed with the additions of Bazemore, Hezonja, Tolliver, and the injured Gasol. Whiteside was the only addition I approved of, and I thought the CJ extension was stupid. I think somewhere here I predicted 45-47 wins as the ceiling. I thought the off-season was a bust, and yeah some of that was inevitable tracking all the way back to 2016

Like I said, HCP was rocking some I-told- you-so vibe, but we all do that at times.

I'm not happy, at all, about where the team is. And I think it's playing a little worse than I expected. But the most I expected from this team was a 1st round exit, and that's the truth. They might still exceed that, but I'd be pretty surprised if they did

We all have our own way of showing our fandom. And we are here to talk about our team. I take it for what it is.

The fact that we will have to wait for the next iteration of the PTB for success doesn't change the fact that I want them have success and the players get to where they want to be. My opinion is that it won't happen with this coach/front office, or maybe even the owner. Gotta wait for these contracts to run out...
I bleed red, black, white, that checkerboard stuff, sometimes dark grey...

So expectations obviously affects how you react to an individual play, game or season. For example, every year a few on here predict 55 wins and the WCF..... when we win 48 they are disappointed. They are the first ones flipping out when we have a bad game. As if we are some sort of Dream Team.
When some on here actually think we are going to beat the Lakers the other night, they are FREAKING out in the game thread. Not understanding the talent disparity between the two clubs had anything to do with the outcome.
Last night there were posts on here just calling the team and it's players and coaches names and losing their collective minds.
After seeing them hang their heads after Hood went down and seeing the way they were carrying themselves during warm ups, I knew this was going to be an ugly game. Was I upset, yes. Frustrated, yes. Surprised or shocked, definitely not.

So now that we all know that we are basically missing 3 starters. Are depending on some rookies and NBA journeymen to step up and play starters minutes and contribute...... are expectations realistically lowered? When we play NYC tomorrow and it's a nail biter down the stretch, but we win, are you happy? Or do you think we should blow them out in an easy win? When we travel to Denver and get our asses handed to us, are you accepting because of our situation, or will you spend 45 posts about how horrible Stotts is?

I didn't see these injuries happening obviously in my preseason prediction, but even without them, I thought we'd win 44 games or so.
From here on out, I can understand people getting upset when we lose a game or play like shit, but are really going into those games thinking we are actually going to win?
Kinda' like a Browns fan going into every September thinking they are going to the Super Bowl, then losing their minds when they finish 5-13......should have know that was going to happen going in, right?

I'm a fan of the Blazers from the Womb to the Tomb, that won't fade. But I also don't hold these guys to unrealistic expectations......that's setting yourself up for failure and heartbreak FAMS. #RipCityForLife
I'm still trying to figure out how the Browns are going to play 18 games...

I want to believe you got the joke..... but I'm not sure.
These days, it seems one can never be totally sure. Especially around here. Jokes are dangerous things in times of turmoil

I've said it before, but I have taken a huge step back from sports in general. Between the Blazers and the Ducks, I have just seen so much disappointment that I'm over it. I didn't like what sports did to me as a person. I felt like I was angry or sad more than I was ever happy.

I guess what I'm saying is my issue is that we're even talking about a team that went to the WCF having much lower expectations the following year instead of them building on that success is the reason I'm upset if that makes sense, lol.

Don’t watch the NFL, my bad.
Is this better....... go to bed every night expecting to wake up with a Porsche in the driveway, but everyday it’s a KIA. At some point you’ll just kind of except it right?

I avoided listening to Rip City Radio today, and just went with the stand-up comedy station instead.

I read every word. If you can't see how this thread comes across when people are down about how their favorite team is doing then I don't know what to tell you man.
I’m just asking at what point you accept that we just might not have the talent to win some of these games. How does that come across?

Who would think their car would change at night? This is what's happening here:

Go to bed with a Porsche (or whatever I'm not a big Porsche fan but I'll stick with your example).

Wake up with Pinto.

Question what happened to your Porsche and get people telling you to just be happy you even have a car and that you shouldn't have expected the Porsche to be there.

I'm glad you are a fan, I am also a fan, as are most in this forum. But c'mon man. Don't tell anyone how they should be a fan.
Where did I tell anybody here how to be a fan? I asked some questions on the current state of the team and how your expectations affect how you react. I never told anybody HOW to react.

Don't you think that would have been a better thread discussion than calling out expectations and people's posts in game threads?

Fans are expecting us to win in spite of the huge loss of talent that’s happened to us this year. Just was wondering why people get so upset is all. Not saying it’s ok we are losing, saying I understand WHY we are.

No that’s the whole point OF the thread. I’m amazed people get SO worked up and pissed in threads. Like they will this week when we are Denver. Do they really think we will hang in that game?
And it all starts with the expectations. When people think this group with 8 new players and injuries was really going to get back to the WCF, they are just setting themselves up for a let down right?
I’m not telling anybody HOW to be a fan, I‘m just curious what goes through the mind of some is all. Plan on a sloppy ass turnover ridden nail biter of a win tomorrow. That’s it. Won’t be pretty, try to enjoy it.

I think we all understand why we're losing; that doesn't change whether or not people are frustrated by it.

The Porsche got in a wreck. I.E. Collins went down with a dislocated shoulder and Hood went down with an achilles tear. Also, Whiteside isn't as good as Nurk. I don't think anyone expected him to be, but it is part of the equation. We were counting on key players staying healthy and that didn't happen. It's not hard to see what that has done to us.

The "huge loss of talent" is a debatable thing though. So is expectation level. I could easily argue that there has been several years of failing to live up to expectations while others in here think getting swept in the 1st round is an achievement for this team because they didn't think they'd make the playoffs those years.

Many people thought OKC was way better than us last year and even the Blazers Organization themselves tried to avoid playing them in the playoffs. Turns out the Blazers are pretty talented.

The original post is so self-righteous it hurts. This forum has had a problem with that lately.
See and your boy Hoops wonders why people come at you all the time. You lost me after that first sentence man. The rest wasn’t worth reading to be honest. Why not just give your opinion of the topic without snapping at people all the time?

I’d like to think I’m a number 2.

That is the whole point. Curious what goes through the minds of people who still freak out every game thread when we aren’t getting it done on the court. Should you by now kinda go into the game knowing we aren’t going to get it done on the court? Never said you can’t be frustrated or upset........ just wondering if they actually thought it would be different.

You're saying that a team that a team with Dame and CJ in their prime should have the expectations to hopefully squeak out a win at home against the Knicks tomorrow so that you aren't disappointed or upset if they lose that one?
