What's the protection on the pick? I think that would be worst case scenario, losing the pick AND no playoffs.

Top 12 on the pick so if we lose out on the playoffs we are losing out on the pick still (we won't be one of the 12 worst teams in the NBA even if we miss the playoffs).

Crap, that bad, huh? I think it's too late to drop that far...

Funny, it was "How far do WE go in the playoffs?"

Now it's "What if THEY do miss the playoffs?"

To expand on this, Atlanta has the 12th worst record in the league. But they are in the playoffs in the east, so we have to get worse than Denver's record of 28-36 to get our pick this year.

If we don't make the playoffs we could still get a top 3 lottery pick. If it's not top 3 then the pick would go to Charlotte.

Are you on the team?!?
Sorry, Santee, that wasn't meant to be snarky to you. It's just this is the first time I've noticed anyone refer to the team as "they" in a long time, and it just happens to be in the first thread even mentioning the possibility of missing the playoffs. Just struck me funny, is all.

Technically it's protected to 12 and under, but realistically you're correct.

Are you referring to our one ping pong ball?

Next thing you'll tell me is that one amoeba started life on Earth.

If the basketball gods would have told us before the season that at this point we would be the 5th seed, we would all be jumping for joy. they wont end the season like this...the rest of the schedule is decently favorable considering most of the good teams we play from here on out are at home.
I honestly wouldnt mind sliding somewhere from 6th or 7th and playing the spurs if possible, i think thats our best chance at getting to the second round.

It seems unlikely that they'd miss the playoffs altogether, but if they did then it makes you wonder what Olshey and Allen are going to make of this team and just how much longer will Stott's keep his gig.

I'm really curious to see what Olshey is able to do with the roster this summer. Because right now I don't see a lot of options for improvement. I've been quite impressed with what he's been able to do thus far, even if some of his moves haven't panned out like we had hoped (Wright, Leonard, CJ, even Mo to an extent).

Do fans come to the games to see better defense or better offense? The Blazers really need a third star and that is not Nic Batum nor is it Wes Mathews. The truth is, If the Blazers want to win (I don't mean games in the regular season or a few playoff games here and there.) They need another player that they can market. That's just how the NBA is.

Because marketing players has definitely made teams better.... Hi Melo.

They won't fall into the bottom 12, and I'd just as soon give up the pic now, rather than wait till it's unprotected. We have so many players with expiring contracts coming up, and if they decide to rebuild, they don't want to owe an unprotected pick.

I agree. If we don't get out of the first round, the first place I look is to trade Wes and/or Nic.

Lebron, Kobe, Howard, Durnat and overseas players. What more do you need?

You talked about making teams better... you loved melo, I showed you. I didn't think I needed to spell it out word for word. Those others are unattainable.

It's really simple logic. :)

I will be the first giving back all the shit I got earlier in the season.

Really? Why?

I'll just be sad. And I'll likely come in here and commiserate, then talk about how to improve the team over the summer.

Sad? I'll be fucken pissed!! It will be just like when the Blazers drafted Bowie over Jordan.

I think that is highly impossible. They may not be worth a damn once they get there. But I think they have another 6 to 7 wins in them which IMO is all they need.

But if they miss out on the playoffs. They prob miss out on the pick, because they are on the fringe either way. And you can't be on the fringe and keep your pick.
