So this terrorist bomber guy was a Somalian-American. There are quite a few of them around Portland...lots of cab drivers, it seems who roll the Rose City cabs. Sometimes get some weird vibes from them...lots of them in Minnesota too for some reason, the airport is full of somali (assuming they are) employees...its kind of trippy. I was there a few years ago and was tripping out how many of them worked at the airports....

Are you more "aware" of the Somalians now? Has Muhamed Mohamed (sp) changed your view of them?

In the Twin Cities, home to the nation's largest Somali community, where concerns about radicalized youths already were high, the news from Oregon has heightened calls for a swift community response.

Minnesota Somali leaders had already been working to protect young men in their community from the lure of radicalism and gangs.

"It's a very dangerous situation," Mohamed said of the threat posed by religious extremism. "The next step is [figuring out] how can the Somali community address this issue?"

Added Abdisalam Adam, secretary of the Islamic League of Somali Scholars in America: "There seems to be a feeling of, with the youth, something is missing."

Concerns raised by the attempted terrorist attack in Portland, which allegedly was planned by teenager Mohamed Osman Mohamud, have only increased with reports of an arson attack a couple of days later against an Oregon mosque where he reportedly once worshiped.

There is a All-Somali soccer team in our league we play alot....interesting that they are all somalian and immigrants of the last two years...not insunuating anything, just remarking the fact

are they very social? the thing people are insinuting now in this community is terrorists groups are targeting the loner types.

...you mean the FBI, CIA, et al are targeting loner type patsies?

No.

Even if that's what you think, it's hard to deny the existence of extremist groups that have a global reach. I would say that the Somalian diaspora is at particular risk of turning to extremism.

Oh, and there are a TON of Somalis at PSU. I play basketball with dudes that looked just like that kid.

That's so awesome that you recognized the somalians in minnesota. and you're right, alllll of the airport employees are somalians.

my high school was actually mostly somalian. they got into gang fights all the time with the black kids (somalians and black kids are not the same thing). somalians also fought with the asians a lot.

i can honestly say i didnt have any somalian friends. i was friends with every group at school, but somalians did kinda keep to themselves. we also have a lot of somalians here in fargo.

I know that when I was that age, if someone told me to blow up Pioneer Courthouse Square and gave me the bomb to do it, I would definitely have climbed into a van and drove down there without thinking twice..... ahhh youth.

Devil's advocate here, you were never depressed with thoughts of rage against anyone, ever?

You know this is the second arrest in the Portland area that has been associated with Terrorist plots. I am starting to wonder if we have a radical "Imam" in the area that needs to be dealt with. Similar to the guy who fled to Yemen and is now staging attacks from there.

aren't there also a bunch of Hmongs there in Minny? Is that where that guy went crazy a few years ago with the automatic weapons?

Maybe it has to do with the Portland opting out of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task force?

Yup, lots of Hmongs. My school was pretty much all somalians and hmongs actually. So when I said "asians" in my first post, I should have said "hmongs".
I'm not sure about the crazy guy you're talking about. Their was a guy in Wisconsin (Yang or Vang, don't remember which) who killed a few hunters on his property.

i met a bunch of cool somalians in highschool...a family moved from cleveland, cousins and what-not. actually hung out alot with them at the end of high school..one of the ones i was closer with moved back to africa after he and a cousin pistol whipped some dude and stole his credit card. oh well.

A family of Somalians own a 7-11 right by my work. The daughter works the cash register during the day and she's out of this world hot. The hottest girl i've ever seen wear a scarf on her head all the time. Straight up exotic looking.
