Mariano Duncan had a ridiculous season
Both Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera made $130,000
Cecil Fielder lead the team in batting during the 1996 World Series

It was Torre's finest moment IMO as Yankee manager. He made tough calls benching Boggs and Tino for Hayes and Cecil, he knew when to play Straw, he knew when to play Raines, he managed the bullpen expertly.

It wasn't until the 2009 WS when we saw a Yankee manager that laser sharp in making tough, go-for-it moves when Giradi went with the 3-man rotation, when he benched Posada in 5-6 games for Molina. etc.

It was an amazing series. I got caught up on Youtube watching a lot of the highlights. After years of flagging videos because of Copyright issues MLB has a lot of the videos again posted on Youtube.

And we had youth on that team with huge potential. I wish we had youth again.

Best thing about that '96 team was seeing them come back down 2 games to no and whacking the Braves (one of the teams I love to hate) Smoltz still hates the Yankees to this day.

New GM would be a nice start. He is still trying to ride on the backs of some of those guys from 1996. How friggin sad is it that they haven't developed 1 decent starter since Andy and they produced like 2 position players that have stuck. Ridiculous.
