You can hardly tell them from Democrats. Listening to a couple talking on TV just this morning about not supporting repeal of Obama Care. They say one of the good things about Obama Care is requiring the coverage of preexisting conditions! HA! Now that's a moron! He would not vote for Obama Care and he won't vote to repeal it. It's way too much to expect the pea brain to understand you can't require a business to provide an unprofitable service.

Listening to some of these Republicans and Democrats speak about this issue is disheartening, maybe even disgusting. They haven't got a clue as to the difference between a business enterprise and a social welfare program. Worst yet, they assume they have the POWER to make one into the other!

Wake up fools, insurance companies can't not be social welfare agents on command. They will cease to be a in the healthcare coverage business. At least that is profit neutral.

You know it hasn't been all that long since it worked as you suggest.

When large employers began covering medical expenses of employees it was not really insurance as most were self insuring or covering the risk.

It is a relatively new thing that Healthcare insurance companies offer broad coverage for sale to people that qualify. It was a good deal for most that bought it and profitable for those companies that sold it. I see no reason to get rid of it, buy it if it helps, or don't. Many people would be better off saving the premium money in a tax deductible health saving account in preparation for the day you need it. But it makes no sense for the Government to stick a hand in this business, it will not help the people that are helped when they purchase the insurance.

Now if you want to reduce the cost of healthcare, then that is another game entirely. I see very little discussion in that area, and none in ObamaCare which is intended to cover people not covered primarily at the expense of people that actually purchase healthcare coverage. The new insurance covers a plethora of condition never covered before, all of which combine to make the cost of insurance a poor deal instead of help, and at the same time, make the business of providing coverage unprofitable. So now we have no help, at too high a price, that the government forces the individual to purchase. But the government can't force the Insurance company to continue offering the unprofitable product. None of this illogical intervention by the government has reduced the cost of healthcare, to the contrary, it increases it greatly by the complexity imposed on the providers.

I agree that Obamacare doesn't do enough to reduce costs, not even close. But it did fill in the gaps and make it near impossible to completely revert.

As far as paying for oneself, its impossible if something major goes wrong. My niece passed away at one month old. The bill was north of a million dollars for all the procedures firing that month. Luckly, my brother had amazing insurance which covered near everything.
