If the idea is to turn Roy into Rip Hamilton, why not trade Roy for Rip Hamilton? In the meantime, why can't zero-time All-Star and zero-time playoff winner Andre Miller learn not to dominate the ball?
Because Brandon might be Reggie Miller +D, instead of Rip? Nobody said that the idea is to turn Roy into someone else. I would like to see him add another facet to his already stellar game.
Maybe you've mistaken me for a Miller apologist. I'd be the first to say that I thought he'd play better than he has so far. I also don't think he's been given a chance to succeed. He's new to the team, and it takes time for PG's to figure out when and where to get the ball to his teammates, especially in the weird lineup he started in.
The three guard lineup didn't give him much of a chance, because Roy plays out of position in that lineup. It might work with Steve coming off the bench and Martel playing 3.
Roy's statements have always been pessimistic about how well he and Miller could play together. Even with Dre starting with Brandon at SG, Brandon would have to be
committed to making it work, by committing himself to learning to play well without the ball. If Brandon's not committed to making it work, then Dre goes to the bench (if he can deal with it without fussing), or he has to go.
I believe that, given a lineup of Dre/Roy/Webs/LA/GO, Miller would bring the ball up, call the play and pass the ball to one of our big three most of the time. I don't know that he's better than Steve, but it seems like the team should find out for sure before they have a fire sale for Miller.
