Someone charged my credit card

I got a call from one of my credit cards about a suspicious charge for $500. The first thing I did was check my room for the card and it was there. Capital One canceled the card and wrote off the charge. I have no idea how someone got my credit card number. I haven't used that card in months. I just spent the past 30 minutes calling my bank and my other card companies to see if anything is wrong, nothing.

I don't know what to think right now, should I cancel my other cards? I need some advice here.

Practically speaking, the fact that you had to have an account changed because of fraud will now be on your credit report, so the amount that fact impacts your credit score (at one time is was part of the scoring models) it doesn't hurt to have the other companies to change your account numbers.

If you do that, make sure to check for any items that you have automatically charging against any of your cards each month.

I think I'll play it safe and have the companies change my numbers, I only have two more cards. Should I include my bank in that? I have a debit card which I use often.

Other than the inconvience of waiting for a new card, it won't hurt.

You will probably want to keep a close eye on your credit report for a while too. Make sure that no one is attempting to apply for credit in your name

I'm not sure if credit scoring models still factor changing account numbers into the analysis. With all of the identify theft issues, I wouldn't be surprised if it has changed.

I dont know why, but i am not very surprised with your incidet. I have had another case in my mind, one of my friend have an account with CaitalOne and they just cancelled hs account without any reason, he talk to the authorities for near about 1 1/2 hour and there is n result. still he is unable to get the reason.

You might want to change the numbers on the other cards as well just to be safe.
