You've heard it before - a child molester approaches kids and attempts to lure them into his car by telling them he's looking for a lost dog.

And, at about 10:10 Friday morning, Northern York County Regional Police believed they had such a case.

A man in a pickup had pulled into the parking lot of the Spring Grove Area Middle School and asked two, 12-year-old girls whether they had seen a dog and said that he was looking for his dog.

A teacher passing by saw the exchange and intervened.

The man drove away.

Police sent out an alert, complete with a description of the man and his truck. The school moved all outdoor activities inside just to be safe and canceled sports practices.

The search was on.

It turned out the man really was looking for a lost dog.

By mid-afternoon, police had located him and reported that it was all a misunderstanding.

They were "able to confirm the male's story that he truly had lost his dog and was asking everyone he saw if they had seen it," police reported on Twitter. "There is no criminal activity associated with this incident - just extremely poor judgment on the part of the individual involved."

If you're a man and lose your pet, kids, or grandkids, make sure not to ask any kids if they've seen anything or the police will put an alert out for you.
