The quick rebuild is long overdue. This streak and some key injuries will put a stamp on it. Rangers own pick may end up being in the top 5. This is what happens when you do Chuck's dumb go for it trades over a period of 4 straight years. The hit eventually comes. Now it's a matter if our stupid GM can finally get good returns like other GM's do.
 
If they trade McDonagh to TB i wouldn't be surprised if Girardi is sent back as part of the deal. I'd want at least 2 1sts and a top 3 prospect. Hopefully our main trade chips stay healthy.
 
I would absolute have to have Foote, Stephens, a first and a second next year for McDonagh. Foote a righty D, Stephens a righty center. That would take a lot of pressure of the organization to make the team more righty. Stephens seems to be NHL ready. Foote maybe 1 AHL year away. That would be a good start.
 
However, I expect the deal to come from Toronto. They aren't going anywhere with that defense. They will overpay badly because they have to. Edmonton might as well.
 
At this point there is a very high probability this team goes down in flames the remainder of the season. Seemingly every game there is another injury (or two). They still have many more road games than home games left, 18 road and 12 home (we stink on the road this season). And we are clearly going to sell off at the trade DL.

A top 10 pick is a lock pretty much, we are the 9th worst team point wise today, and if we stink that bad we'll creep closer to top 5 territory. And then who knows maybe we get lucky and win the lottery for a top 3 pick.

The time has come for sure. Maybe we fire AV over the next couple of months, but at this point I don't think it really matters as the window for mattering this season has passed. It is just as likely they simply fire him after the season ends. I just hope the next coach actually cares even a little about D (or knows how to coach it) because I am so tired of seeing the pathetic in zone play we have for 3 seasons now.

Should be a very active trade DL for us. Nash, Holden and Grabner are gone for sure. The questions are Zucc and McDonagh. I would deal both but only if the return is super mega high for two players that are under contract next season at very good AAV's (the teams dealing for them would get two playoff runs). If not I would wait until the summer/the draft and deal them then when in theory all teams and players would be in the mix.

As for McDonagh I hope he goes to Toronto and not TB. I don't need to see TB winning big with a handful of ex-Rangers on their roster. I admit that would bother me. If the TB offer is clearly the best, yeah I deal McDonagh there, but I hope Toronto or Edmonton or another team has the best offer.

It is time for sure. It has been a really good run the past 6 years or so. Hard to say great with no cup, but really good and exciting for sure. Let's hope Gorton can do what the Yanks did at the trade DL two seasons ago and take one step back in order to take 2 or 3 steps forward. Not 100% apples to apples given the sports and the cap, but the template should be that. Trade off now to really retool and be back stronger next season. We'll see what Gorton is made of the next 3 weeks, and then again this summer. The next 5 months will decide his legacy here I believe. We'll see if he has the chops for it.
 
He should start dealing in the next week or so, as i can see him getting overwhelmed if he leaves it all to the last minute. Then again i guess the return may be better closer to the DL.
 
This has got to be the softest, easiest team to play against in years. They got bullied and beaten by the Predators and answered with nothing. This pussy filled mentality starts with the coach, GM and captain. I don’t get it... a guy gets his head rammed into the boards and nothing is done. They just look at the refs and when there is a call say “good job staying composed boys we got a power play”
 
This core has done what they could and gone as far as they could. They tried to tweak on the fly but a more major change is needed. We got close. 1 Finals appearance plus 2 more ECFs. That’s nothing to sneeze at but when you have 1 Stanley Cup in 80 years it’s not good enough.

Really looking forward to mini rebuild and I think that plus new coach and the right moves can quickly build quickly. I actually think Nash will resign for half the money he’s making now and retire a Ranger but get that 1st rounder now.

Next year Hank is 36 but he’s still playing a high level most nights. They will be one year closer to getting rid of Staal and can build around the young talent they have. If done right they got one more run left for a Cup for Hank after a Yankees like mini rebuild.
 
Hank saw a lot of action , 41 SOG with 28 more blocked, pathetic defensive strategy by AV and Hitchcock has been around long enough to know where to position his players to stymie AV's predictable breakouts. 55 points with 29 games left, need a ridiculous run just to stay mathematically eligible for playoffs. Any rebuild has to start with a new coach. There isn't a player on this team that I wouldn't consider trading if the deal is right, including Hank. Nash has to go, regardless of his occasional bursts of scoring he is useless postseason.

i'm not trying to be a troll but i'm confused. you say they need a major change? and then you mention a mini rebuild on the fly no less? the contradiction isn't even the oddest thing. to get the pieces you need to rebuild your trading away huge pieces of your core. MCD? zucc? those are huge players your taking out and replacing them with who? i get your bringing up kids thats great but you still need a center piece to build around. who is it? lundqvist who is 36? krieder? i mean i'm not a ranger fan so i dont know the prospects you have or anything like that but whos going to be the go to guy? the best player on the team? i dont even know why anyone wants to rebuild on the fly? why not take your time and do it right? whats the hurry?
 
If trading Mcd now they aren't getting a top 10 pick as teams interested are contenders. If trading to contender Tampa has the best farm and most prospects. need at least 3 of them plus a number one. Otherwise trade mcd at draft where a team is more apt to give up a top 5 pick in package. Others like nash, holden grabner, smith and zucc can be traded now for young assets and multiple picks.

Major rebuild wasn't the right term - I mean mini rebuild but not just adding pieces like they have the past 5 years.

Trade Nash for a late #1 and prospect - and resign him for less in summer

Trade Grabner for a late 1st

Trade Holden and Desharnais for whatever you can

Try to trade Smith, who knows

The Rangers major problems over the past couple years were their aging defenseman they resigned wore down and ate too much of the cap and didn't perform well in the playoffs (Girardi, Staal). Not only was the D weak but they ate so much of the cap they couldn't add more scoring. AV was good for this team but his message is stale and they need a shakeup both on the roster and behind the bench. They have some decent talent to build around now with a smaller rebuild focused on next year. This won't be a major rebuild. I do wish they would just bottom out like Jersey and every other bad organization the past 10 years has done - Trade Lundqvist, Trade Kreider, Trade Zuc Trade McD etc. Build for 2-4 years from now. They won't do that, Lundqvist doesnt want to be traded. So they will go the Yanks route and trade some guys who are UFAs and have value, stock pile some picks, and try to retool in summer.

We have had 1 top 5 pick in 50 years that prob isn't changing although who knows they might get lucky this year after they tank down the stretch.

You're confused because you have an IQ of about 70 cup. You're a dumb fuck who doesn't know shit about this team or how to build a team. Yet, you post here because your fan base sucks ass and nobody cares about your team. I agree with the poster that said team needs to higher a young coach with some new ideas. Torts was all defense. AV is all offense. Need to find a guy in the middle. Get some extra first rounders. Hit on those picks like they did with Andersson and Chytil and go from there.
 
Isn't it a little early to say the Rangers hit on Andersson and Chytil? They've played a combined 2 games in the NHL. I'm certainly optimistic about them but.....we've all gone down this road in the past with some of the Rangers draft picks.

Nah. I don't think it's too early. Chytil is already producing in the AHL on a crap team. Andersson was drafted as basically the only sure thing in the draft from all scouting reports. His ceiling may not be as high but there was a reason they took him. He was a sure thing.
 
Well, we have to have some faith in these picks at some point, right? I suspect we won't see either of them (again) until next season at the earliest even if they start trading away players soon. Ideally they would play Chytil once March rolls around, they will still be playing meaningful games (meaningful to the opponent). Andersson should prob wait until camp.
 
Seriously, they are shit. As is Skjei...he is playing like total hell. McD too. This team is a mess and impossible to watch.
 
Skjei regressing is probably the most disappointing of the things this year. Hopefully it's just a sophomore slump and a result of the defense as a whole sucking.
 
He's mostly regressing because AV's system is retarded and he won't change it. He refuses to try and develop any stay at home defenseman. The fact DeAngelo is playing over Graves is a disgrace.

Do we have any connections in FLA so one of those teams can gift us a top player in his prime like Capt Jete did? That'd certainly speed up and rebuild for us.
 
Honestly, they completely lucked out that this happened this year. They have 2 perfect rentals for late first rounders in Nash and Grabner. They also have McDonagh coming to the end of his contract with one year still left and the chance to trade him to the Oilers for what might be a top 7 pick in a draft loaded with elite defenseman prospects.

I wish man. I was more referring to a couple years ago when the Yanks traded Chapman and Andrew Miller for good prospects and then resigned Chapman.
 
If they can deal McDonagh to the Oilers, they might actually have a chance at two top 7 picks, plus 2 late first rounders. That would be exactly what they need for a quick rebuild.
 
Smith was put on waivers but i don't see anyone claiming him.
