Source: Blazers Identified As 'Wild Card' For Omer Asik

As much as I would love to have the depth and luxury of having both Asik and Rolo on the team, Robin is averaging 31 minutes in our 22 wins. LMA plays a few in the 4th. Not sure Asik would be a happy camper with 18 to 20. But a 24/24 spit at the center spot intrigues me.

Could we play them together in the 2nd quarter? Can Robin get some additional minutes at the 4? That would require sending out Trob and Joel for Asik.

I would lean towards......no

Asik to Ptd seems very far fetched as Blazers won't offer anything that it would take to get Asik.

I'm going to guess Asik heads off the the eastern conference (Charlotte?). Want a scary thought . . . Asik to OKC. :devilwink:

Hawes and LaMarcus can't play together, effectively, I believe. Hawes is a stretch 5. Lamarcus is a stretch 4.

Typically you can't play two post players next to each other because of the spacing problem it creates, but I see no reason why two guys with range couldn't coexist on the court for stretches of time. Defensively is where I would worry the most, but assuming you keep Lopez, I think Hawes could be fit in with this front-court with relative ease.

Good for Olshey if he's at least exploring his options. I don't see much of a path to a trade here, but who knows.

And yes, chemistry might be an issue, but if it's so fragile that it can't tolerate any sort of roster movement, then just how real is that chemistry to begin with? The real question is how much better does adding Asik make the Blazers and what is lost getting him? If Olshey can evaluate that counter-factual and thinks he comes out ahead then more power to him.

That's what I think as well. There is no harm for our GM to explore any opportunity to be better.

Well it would have to be at the trade deadline. Houston would never do it directly. Plus what does OKC have to offer?

That could work, if LMA or Hawes was willing to work in the post at a higher rate with the other on the court - or else our rebounding would suffer as well. It would be intriguing as you could take Hawes to the perimeter and create more space for LMA to work in the paint and wouldn't have to worry about a weak side shot blocker - unless they want to give Hawes wide open 3s.

not my comments but I agree with it:

"don't forget that it was Neil Olshey that gave a giant assist to Morey by taking Thomas Robinson. There could be some good will built up between the Houston and Portland front offices.

Maybe Philly, for instance, is fine with trading Young and Hawes if they get Asik plus Robinson and Leonard, with Hawes going to Portland"

And you know this how? Did you have a meeting with Olshey and Allen?

Olshey is just trolling the Rockets for all the times they called this summer asking if the Blazers wanted to trade LMA.

I'd be fine being a 3rd team in a deal that doesn't net us Asik. We definitely have needs to address.

Could you imagine if Aldridge had 4 players he could pass to for a wide open tre? Also, dame would have a field day if Hawes would bring out the other team's bigs in the paint.

I'm still not sold on Hawes being the best player on Philly that I'd like to snag from them. Evan Turner is really, really interesting IMO. Obviously he plays with the ball in his hands and that is a bit of a conundrum, but he could provide a real punch off of the bench, but we obviously have CJ waiting in the wings as well. I think we are dying for scoring off of the bench.

This.

Why the fuck do people want to trade Freeland? He stepped up huge last night, guy is straight ballin on the o glass.

Thats pretty much the set up the Rockets are trying to follow, with Dwight in the paint and shooters all around him.

It is an interesting idea. I just don't think the defensive part of it will be sustainable in a playoff run. Teams would be forced to single cover Aldridge or take chances with our 4 3pt shooters. Would be fun to watch.

Hawes can definitely be that scorer off the bench. He can net them in a hurry, especially when teams would much rather focus on Lillard and Aldridge.

Also, CJ would be a Godsend as well. CJ could easily net +10, Hawes 8-10, which puts our team with a +30 off the bench. That's perfect!

For Turner I'd put CJ on the block ... assuming Philly would be interested.

I love the idea of Hawes in a 3-way, but cannot understand why Houston wouldn't just keep him. Seems like he would look pretty good next to Howard.

Another thing many people may not think about, Asik just switched to a new agent. His new agent is the same agent for Aldridge AND Lopez and according to Olshey at the Lopez press conference, he was instrumental in getting Lopez to Portland

One good night doesn't mean he's having a great year or is likely to become an indispensable player. Overall, Freeland has been "fiesty" but pretty mediocre this year.

Because I bet they would rather have the athletic young

Yeah. If Hawes is on the move He'd be just the kind of floor spacing big man that Morey would want next to D12.

Imagine the contract negotiations when they're up?! Haha

Because Hawes is better . . .

If you can trade lesser players for better ones, you do it.

Freeland we.t from scrub to dependable beast in 1 summer. He's improving every night and not making major mistakes. We still have 50some games to play, he can easily improve as he's shown. His ceiling is too high right now. I'm tired of everyone playing NBA2k14 fantasy trades. Our gm is the shit and he will do what is right, our fans don't need to send bad vibes to guys who are earning their keep.

So if he did make that trade, would you still think he's the "shit"?
