Could it be a four team deal? This is getting very exciting!

New York desperately wants Meyers Leonard and Will Barton. That's gotta be it.

Prig
Smith/Barton
Melo
Bargnani
Leonard

That lineup would deSTROY the Ukrainian second division.

If they get Green and Bass for Asik, that will really help their bench.

So was Lillard last year. Then he was starting PG and had one of the better rookie seasons for a PG in NBA history. Good thing the Blazers waited to see what they had in him!

My resonse to him had nothing to do with waiting and seeing. Context people, context

I'm not sold we should trade for Asik, but it is an interesting prospect based on his past body of work

His past body of work is quite spotty--this season he's started 6 games and is averaging just over 18 minutes a game, and those figures are BOTH higher than either season he had with Chicago.

The guy isn't anything more than a backup center, in my opinion, but he's being paid like a starter and seems to be unwilling to be less.

Portland is rolling now, and they have some young pieces in Leonard and Robinson and CJ who aren't critical now but could evolve into meaningful pieces down the line. I think that it makes sense to have this balance of "now" and "future" and moving prospects (who, let's face it, aren't worth that much right now as it is in terms of trade value) doesn't make sense unless it's to get someone a heck of a lot better than Asik.

I disagree Ed. I think he's a starting center. His numbers last year were definitely starting caliber numbers. He's not a star though. He's limited offensively. Our team is built around our offense. It's built on passing. It's built on unselfish basketball. Lopez embodies everything that our offense stands for. I have no idea how Asik would fit with that concept.

If Asik can be had for parts we aren't using, he would be significant upgrade over Freeland at center. I don't understand what people are bitching. I don't think anyone is suggesting we move Lopez for him, but if he can be had for a combination of players coming off the bench like Freeland, Robinson, Crabbe, Leonard, future 2nds, etc, why the hell wouldn't you? He would be a great defensive presence we are still lacking.

I'd be furious if we traded for him. He wants to start and Lopez is better for this team. Joel is doing great job. No deal.

I would do it if we could get Asik for Leonard, Claver, Barton. Hell, I'd do it just so we could turn around and deal him again if we wanted to. He's an asset. But I'm not sure that is even remotely close to getting that deal done. Like I said, I think we're a last resort for Houston.

There's a concern around these parts that even mentions of trade rumors on this board will become immediately concrete and will negatively impact locker room chemistry.

In past years, Asik has been better, but this year he's really not a step up from Joel. Rebounding is really it so far this year

That's actually good news. If the deal involves Boston, I want nothing they have.

Sometimes I feel like you are the only fan here that loves the #1 team in the league as much as I do <3
