Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.

Sources close to the team told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a press conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent, and sources say that he intends to continue to play.

The Colts decided not to pick up Manning's option because of concerns they had over his readiness to play in the NFL again.

The four-time league MVP missed the entire 2011 season after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, a fusion of two vertebrae. His doctors have medically cleared him to resume his career.

Manning has broken all of Indianapolis' career records for quarterbacks and had never missed a start before last season. He's taken the Colts to the playoffs 11 times, captured seven AFC South titles in eight years, won two AFC championships, one Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl MVP Award.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

If the Seahawks cant trade up and get RGIII... I hope they go after P.Manning!

The Seabags have the defense to make some noise if the QB situation is resolved.

Arizona might want to take a shot as well, because Manning throwing to Fitzgerald would be insane.

I don't think Arizona will abandon the (expensive) Kolb experiment after only one year. Manning to Fitzgerald would be pretty fun to watch, though.

Arizona makes a lot of sense to me

Fitzgerald + playing in a dome

First time in a long time the NFCW should be pretty competitive. The 49ers and Seahawks could arguably have the most physical teams in the NFC next year.

I agree, Arizona would be a good fit and I dont think they'd think twice about releasing Kolb if they could get Peyton.

The Dolphins are getting a lot of noise, but I just don't see it. Sure, they have Brandon Marshall, but I doubt Manning would want to play outdoors all season, and play against Brady 2x/year and the Jets as well.

Denver may be an option as well. With their defense and a QB, they'd be nasty.

Jamal Crawford ‏ @JCrossover Seahawks fans, can we convince Peyton Manning to come to our team?????

I'd like to see Peyton and Wayne sign with the Cardinals or Dolphins.

Cardinals would be fun to see. Fitzgerald and Wayne with Manning would be a blast to watch next year. Arizona's offensive line needs some work, though.

The city, sure. But the Raiders have won 3 NFL Championships compared to your Seahawks big goose egg :ghoti:

Do you think Peyton cares what happened that long ago? It's about the current roster, the city, and the organization.
Seahawks/Seattle > Raiders/Oakland.

John Clayton was on Mike & Mike this morning and he said that Arizona will have a hard time getting Peyton because of their salary cap situation. They are only $3 million under the cap and are looking to dump one of their best offensive linemen to clear more money, but still wont have nearly as much as Miami, Washington, and Seattle. Obviously Peyton isnt going to like the idea of a team dumping a good offensive linemen. He doesnt scramble much, so he needs a good o-line. Arizona can cut Kolb, but would still take a $6 million cap hit. Miami, Washington, and Seattle are all about $32-$35 million under the cap.

How can you say seattle is a much better football team right now anyway? The seahawks dont have the raiders history bar none.

I didnt say "much" better. The only clear advantage the Raiders have is McFadden... and he cant stay healthy.
Raiders dont have the cap space... Seahawks do.
Peyton doesnt care about history. That wont help them win the next 3-5 years.

The raiders have no business getting manning. But I think its funny you say we only are clearly advantageous with mcfadden. Oakland had two quarterbacks on their roster better than tarvaris, and wehad a better record than u last yr with our best player hurt over half the yr

I was speaking from the perspective of what Manning would be looking at. He obviously doesnt care about the teams current QB situation because he would start over them.
Cant argue that T.Jackson and C.Whitehurst suck ass!!! Worst QB's in the NFL. If we even had a mediocre QB, we'd probably would of had 2-3 more wins.

I was assuming we upgrade at QB... Manning hopefully.

Campbell would be cheap this yr if manning doesnt sign

I wonder if Payton can play point guard?
