Southern Oregon to form new state?

Why not a DNA bank for all immigrants? Some people enter the country legally but overstay their visa. This way we cover all our bases.

(Way to derail a thread, Brian)

And what do we do when we choose not to work or create or produce?

What?

Geez! Dang this is terrible, all I can come up with is standing in line wait for someone or thing to hand out a ration.

Geez! That won't do. I bet I can come up with some thing I can make to sell to someone that really wants it. That will beats the waiting line.
Geez - you've almost stumbled onto the answer all by yourself!
When production/service is completely automated everyone would then be free to pursue their individual interests. So rather than firing people, you could have built boats from sunrise to sunset.

A little of this and then do some of that seems to fit me rather well.

It reminds me a bit of an article I read today about the automated stock trading that goes on, and how humans are now not only completely irrelevant, but not even in control of what is essentially a separate economy that operates too fast for us to react to... humans may reap the benefits, but they aren't participating.

I'll dig up the article when I have time tonight.

The Modoc County Board of Supervisors today voted to join neighboring Siskiyou County in its bid to secede from the State of California.

Board Chairman Geri Byrne said a measure to join the push to form a State of Jefferson was approved by a vote of 4-0, with one supervisor absent.

“I put the measure on the agenda because I heard from a number of people in my district that wanted to do such,” Byrne said. “We’re not saying we’re seceding today, we’re saying let’s look into it.”

Roughly 40 people turned out for the board meeting, Byrne said a standing-room only crowd in the Modoc County chambers. About a dozen spoke in favor of the measure with only two raising objections.

“This is going to have to be something the people bring forward,” Byrne said. “It’s going to have to be from the bottom up, not from the top down.”

The move makes Modoc the second county to join in the fight to form the State of Jefferson in less than a month. Siskiyou County passed a measure to start the secession process at the supervisor’s Sept. 3 meeting.

This is a lot of fun to read about http://www.jeffersonstate.com/

"The 2 X's in the Jefferson Seal represent the people being double-crossed by Salem and Sacramento." lol, priceless

"...a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, ... Thomas Jefferson"

I would move there, heck I like Redding/ Trinnity Lakes area real well...

It has been a movement since 1852. It was finally being pushed hard in the early 4Os. We had a governor elected and all but the governor and committee set it aside with the start of war with Japan. It was never resurrected again until now. Succeeding from Oregon and it's Liberal government would be sweet at this point, I will vote for it if it gets that far.

Can those of us that don't want to live here if that happens be refugees in Portland?

More fun facts about Texas.

Keep Portland Weird was stolen from the city of Austin which has had the slogan for much longer than Portland has

And whats even weirder is it's about keeping Walmart out of Portland and has nothing to do with being weird (in a hippy/homeless/dirty/odd) way.

It has occurred to some of us in eastern oregon that the OR/WA border should run N/S instead of E/W. Probably not a good idea, but there is an appeal.

I just wanted to toss this out there

Wait. Austin's slogan was "Keep Portland Weird?" That really is weird...
