I actually think they would do this too since they will be tring to get Bynum long term.

How does this make us better? First, I think his numbers will increase significantly in Portland, playing along side Aldridge. Hawes will give us at least 3-5 solid starting years, with Leanord developing as the first big off the bench. He will still get some solid minutes.

This move should get our defense up BIG TIME!

Thoughts?

I'd be ok trading for Hawes, but wouldn't likely give Hickson for him. I'd take him with our cap space in the offseason, or if they want to dump him to save money, would give expirings.

Why in the world would they try to get Bynum long term?

Bynum took part in shooting drills and other on-court activities during Monday's practice. He said in a media session after practice that he hopes to return near the All-Star break.

If he returns and plays well; then I think they will sign him long term. They gave up a lot to get him, so they need some return off their investment. Also, Bynum (when healthy) is one of the better centers in the league.

I would love to bring Hawes here. You'd think, though, that if Philly were going to shop him, they'd be able to get a bit more than a 4-month rental, even one as seemingly productive as Hickson.

But they could try and intice Hickson to stay, since they have the cap space to keep him. And why wouldn't Hickson stay? They would be able to give him a decent contract and he would start for them at his natural position. He's also young enough to grown with their team.

Hawes only has 3 things working against him

1. American born

2. White

3. Center

yeah, but at least he didn't go to Syracuse!

Hawes would be a horrible fit next to Aldridge. Both of them love playing 15 feet away from the basket and aren't great rebounders for their position.

I liked Hawes as a target last summer, but I think Leonard has more of a game to compliment LMA on a front-line, as does Freeland. Hawes is kind of a finesse center, which isn't bad, but not ideal alongside LMA.

Hickson has no trade value. We need to stop with the trade proposals because we will never get anything remotely close to what he's worth. Our best bet is to try to sign him to a reasonable deal and then trade him if it's necessary next season.

*sigh* all I can remember is Hawes being totally owned by Greg Oden in that pre-season game against Sacramento. I wish I had a selective memory. :(

you may be right, but then again:
ESPN Insider said:
UPDATE: To follow up on yesterday's note on J.J. Hickson, lets take a look around the league at which team may be interested in working out a trade for him.

Houston, Miami, Boston and Milwaukee are four teams that could eye frontcourt help, though none are a perfect match. It's questionable whether any team other than the Celtics and Heat would be willing to deal much for the expiring contract of Hickson, and an argument could be made that it's actually the Bucks and Rockets that have more to offer Portland in terms of young prospects. And even with that being the case, it may not be wise for the Bucks and Rockets to unload their future for what could end up being a temporary fix in Hickson.

J.J. Hickson has averaged a hefty double-double (12.2 ppg, 11.0 rpg) for the Portland Trail Blazers this season. While that's great news for them as a team, his increased production is going to leave general manager Neil Olshey with a difficult decision to make as the trade deadline approaches, because Hickson is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"[A]nyone who has ever spent any time around owner Paul Allen knows that he'll be irked if Olshey loses the 24-year-old Hickson at the end of the season without getting something for him," wrote John Canzano of the Oregonian.

"That's not the tricky part. Because even as the Blazers love Hickson, there are a number of league executives who don't believe he has trade-deadline value beyond, maybe, a couple of future second-round draft picks."

On the other hand, if they don't trade Hickson for something, they may loose him via free agency, especially if another team sees him as a long-term fit and is willing to pony up a decent contract for him. Certainly, we will be hearing more about Hickson's potential to be dealt away as the Feb. 21 trade deadline approaches.

All it takes is one GM to like him.

Hickson for one of Houston's youngsta's would be nice.

You do. You have patented selective memory.

Tired maybe, but not untrue
