Now?

If we had lost all of the games after the trade deadline then I'd be in agreement with you but that is obviously not what has happened or will happen. So now winning the most games is the best thing long term because I would much rather convey our first rounder this year to the Bulls and free up all of our future firsts to improve the team with. I mean what's more valuable when trying to build a contender the 10th-14th pick in an average draft or three future firsts. Obviously the three future firsts have more value... along with the value of getting to see what Dame looks like with this squad before the off season comes and playoff experience for these guys.

The long term benefits are in wins now. Look at the schedule from March 20th to April 7th. The way these guys are playing and with the fact that Dame will be three weeks past his prescribed recovery period, do those eleven games seem like games we can tank? It actually seems really likely right now that we have an eleven game win streak during that time and with AD's injury tonight and being only 3.5 games back from a Clippers team ravaged by injuries, we have a great shot at getting into the 7/8 play in game and getting the seventh seed. With the exception of Dame and Nurk, this is a really young team that can use the playoff experience.
You're all over the place. At one moment, we're losing 13 in a row. Now we're winning 11 in a row. One moment, Ja isn't an All Star, the next moment we're only good if we can beat Grizz with Ja who drops 44 points on us.

I’m not following anything you are saying. The “result” would hopefully not be making a play in game. Ten years of tanking? What?
He's saying that we want to get experience in the playoffs, which includes the play-in which we would win with Dame, and that our team with Chauncey might be a contender. He's saying we have a star in Dame and another in the making in Ant and 10 years of tanking might not get us two stars at once.

This is why I've been against trading Simons for a star, because that star would cost more money than Ant (well maybe not so much any more kid's gonna get PAIIIID) and we don't know Ant's ceiling. Also, we have two stars now IMO and we need a 3rd and then we can compete. Can we get a third star if some of our young guys continue to ball out and we package them with the Pel's pick or the pick plus the TPE? We shall see!

One moment I didn't think that Ja would be voted in by the coaches over Dame if that's what it came down to because Dame is a perennial all star and was still putting up all star numbers and I never got to find out because Ja was voted in by the fans and Dame wasn't in the running this year. I didn't know the Grizzlies were going to do as well as they've been doing this year and that Ja would sustain the level that he has. So my opinion of him has changed but last year if we beat the Grizz without Ja it still wouldn't have told us as much about our team as if we beat them with him because I definitely was of the opinion for a few years now that Ja was their best player.

As far as the team goes, yeah my opinions are constantly evolving, especially in a season like this with a new coach and young players showing more than they had previously. I'm constantly learning new things. I didn't know that Ant could do what he's doing this consistently. So yeah I am all over the place. Right now I'm pretty sure that Dame and Ant will struggle to coexist but I'm really hoping that I'm wrong and they thrive together. Right now I think I would want to trade Dame away if they weren't able to complement each other; before this last week I never would have said that. So I'm just learning all of the time and as I learn my perspective changes. I could be wrong right now and Ant could just be on some Linsanity type of thing that the league will figure out, I seriously doubt that's the case but I've definitely been wrong before, both being too positive and to negative about this team and the players on it.

And what is the result of all of that, try to make the playin?

Ant has star potential. Dame is a star. 10 years of tanking might not get another one.
The result is Ant learns to not be loyal to Portland since we turn our back on that the first moment our loyal star is down. Terrible precedent.

Scouting will catch up to us. So fun to watch though
About the time scouting catches up with us we'll have a schedule of Pacers, Pistons, Spurs, Rockets, Rockets, Thunder, Pelicans, Spurs, Spurs, Thunder and Pelicans. I'm not saying we'll win all of those games but even with scouting reports those teams are inferior to us. The tank is over. I actually think we have a good chance of getting into the 7/8 game, winning it and getting this young team some playoff experience and also figuring out just how well the pieces fit together against top flight teams. Again while we do lose one lottery pick we gain the ability to use all of our future picks in a trade.

The fact is that there aren't any sure fire prospects in this draft as far as sure fire all stars and there definitely aren't any sure fire all nba or mvps. Obviously Dame wasn't one of those either and one of the guys in this draft is probably going to be a big time superstar but due to there being no consensus there is a great possibility that if our front office identifies who they think that player is, they will be able to trade the Pelicans pick and a future first to move up and get that player.

The draft lottery will still be very interesting for us and then I expect us to be very active during the draft as well.

I’ll take Winslow for Norm straight up today.

i have a feeling chemistry at least on the court was one of our biggest issues. We had a couple of ball stoppers that were preventing us from playing unselfish basketball. Nothing against Norm but he wasn’t the defender we thought he was and he knew one way to play shoot almost every time he got it. We all know CJ rarely passed where this team seems to enjoy making the extra pass.

I always like the Pop saying “there’s a good shot and a better shot, I want the better shot” think I heard Billups say similar thing in his post game press conference.

I’m guessing plan is to use one or both for a trade. We have good youth now no need to add more

What is the chance the Blazers get a franchise altering player at the top of the draft? 2%? Pretty freaking low. Look how many weren't drafted in the high lottery: Kawhi, Giannis, Butler, Jokic, Siakim, Mitchell, etc. It's about 50/50 if a star is high in the lottery or deep in the draft.

Not sure why you want to root for losses. The GM did all he could to tank. But this coach, Ant, and patchwork roster is too good for that. Enjoy the wins instead of dreaming of losses.

3 of the people you mentioned were franchise altering players.

What it does is allow you the best opportunity at drafting those players. Example

Oden over Durant. No chance at Durant without that pick

pre lottery, but Bowie over Jordan. Same thing

It’s not the fault of the strategy that you pick the wrong guy.

Yeah, and what player is that? Only one looks like a slam dunk to be a starter with star potential. Everyone else is a roll of the dice.

That take is mediocre lol. Giannis is better than Dame and was around near where the Pelicans pick will be. Kawhi, Giannis, and Jokic are all franchise-altering players no doubt about it. Adding someone at Butler, Siakam, or Mitchell's level would change our trajectory with Dame and Ant there. We just need one more star-level guy and in this draft, he's as likely to be found at #12 or lower than #2-11. Only Jabari Smith looks like a surefire starter for a good team with a shot at being a star, the rest are huge question marks.

if you assume pick is 10 or lower:

17 Jrue Holiday
10 Paul George
11 Klay Thompson
15 Kawhi Leonard
19 Tobias Harris
30 Jimmy Butler
35 Draymond Green
39 Khris Middleton
12 Steven Adams
15 Giannis Antetokounmpo
27 Rudy Gobert
13 Zach LaVine
33 Joe Harris
38 Spencer Dinwiddie
39 Jerami Grant
41 Nikola Jokić
46 Jordan Clarkson
11 Myles Turner
13 Devin Booker
15 Kelly Oubre Jr.
22 Bobby Portis
40 Josh Richardson
11 Domantas Sabonis
20 Caris LeVert
27 Pascal Siakam
29 Dejounte Murray
36 Malcolm Brogdon
13 Donovan Mitchell
14 Bam Adebayo
19 John Collins
22 Jarrett Allen
23 OG Anunoby
45 Dillon Brooks
10 Mikal Bridges
11 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
12 Miles Bridges
14 Michael Porter Jr.
33 Jalen Brunson
37 Gary Trent Jr.
11 Cameron Johnson
12 P.J. Washington
13 Tyler Herro
28 Jordan Poole
29 Keldon Johnson
12 Tyrese Haliburton
15 Cole Anthony
19 Saddiq Bey
30 Desmond Bane

they are few and far between but there are gems outside of the top-10 in every draft. Long odds but there's no chance if it's not taken
