Blazers Vow To Fight For Playoffs

“We know we’re in the tenth spot right now but we still got a chance,” Batum told HOOPSWORLD. “As long as we’ve got a chance we’re going to keep fighting. The road wins were big for us for the playoff race. We know we still have a chance to get the eighth spot, so to get those wins on the road versus two good playoff teams like Chicago and Atlanta was good for us.”

Lakers are saying the same thing (about the Spurs being a good matchup for them) ...

Spurs are kinda like the Ducks to an extent. They run a gimmick offense (not to the level of the SSOL of old, but it's based on a lot of movement and cutting). And their depth will not mean as much in the playoffs when defenses tighten up and take away the non-stars' production. Given their age and reliance on secondary players, they're the best matchup for everyone in the playoffs. That might not manifest as much in the first round, but after that, they're fair game.

Is that the Players and Stotts talking or the Blazers front office?

Stotts said:
I look at our players and I hear their comments and how hard they are playing. They certainly haven't given up on the playoffs. As a coach, I'm going to coach them like that. I don't want to bail on them. They've given everything they've had all season. We have to give it a shot. Whatever happens in the next 12 games, we'll take it game by game. I know there are people wanting me to bail on the season and play the young guys for the last month, I just don't think that's fair to the guys who have been putting it out there every night.

Spurs would demolish the Lakers. They have pieces and defense that could shut down their team. It would be embarrassing! The reason why we match up well is Aldridge can defend Duncan straight up. Our guards still can score against their guards and we defend the perimeter better than 24 other teams in the league. It would be a fucking nightmare for Spurs to meet us in the first round.

I never said I agreed with them. But the Spurs are a better matchup for them then OKC is.

Can't wait until the Lakers go home for the year!

I remember Blazer fans and the "media" thinking Portland was a good matchup for Houston, Phoenix and Dallas.

how'd those series turn out?

No one ever thought Houston was a good matchup for us. They beat us twice in the month leading to the playoffs. Jeff VG said we'd get blown in game 1 and he was right. And the Suns were the hottest team in the league and we were playing without Brandon Roy. Dallas is the only team people talked about us beating.

Portland had HCA in 2 of those playoffs, and yes, people were saying that they should've won those two series.

The bigger and more important point is that there wasn't a "good matchup" for this team in the past, nor is there one now.

Both losses in the Reg Season that we had against HOU were at their place. Only once did we play them in the last month by the way. We had home court advantage in that Houston series. There were plenty of people who thought we could win.
