I agree. The $3mm is the cash the Mavs gave us. Should we be paying for Stackhouse to play for the Mavs? Basically would have traded Kidd, Stackhouse and Wright for Harris, expirings and 2 1st rounders. Something wrong there.

Think of Stackhouse as...a trade exception of sorts. If we can buy him out at a good price, it'd be like getting an expiring contract...like getting Kwame Brown, to a lesser extent, pretty much.

I think it is the other way around. The amount of the buyout is spread out over the remaining years left on the contract. So if a player is bought out for 3 million and has 3 years left on their contract, then that would mean a 1 million hit a year on the cap for the team. Anyone can confirm this?

I think the figures are being worked on. That's the thing keeping it off Nba.com. I think Thorn wants Cuban to pay Stack the MLE he still has, thus reducing the buyout figure. I don't think Thorn is negotiating with Stack's agent, it's with Cuban. The amount of the buyout figure will be the remaining salary minus how much of the MLE Cuban will pay him this year. Nets of course want Cuban to empty the MLE what about 6 million, minus the 16 million remaining, that's 10 million, so 5 million hits the cap in each of the following 2 seasons.

No... he still counts towards the cap and he can never be traded. Kwame goes away after this season.

Our only saving grace is if he buys him out for a small amount. The buyout amount is what counts towards the cap.

Cuban can sign him to a 3 year deal at the MLE. Prorated for this season would be roughly $3mm this season plus $6mm the next 2 years. So Nets can buy him out for the roughly $20mm left minus the $15mm Cuban can sign him for. So that's a $5mm buyout, which would result in about a $2mm hit a year to our cap over the next 2 seasons.

I can live with that if that's what it is. Probably why we got 2 #1s.
