Start Meyers against the Rockets

Against Dwight Howard and the Rockets, Meyers has been a force for the Blazers. In the Feb 10 game, 14 points and holding down Dwight's scoring and rebounds by Meyers were important. Meyers is a better choice than Noah to start against the Rockets (or Dallas, Washington, Sacramento, and Detroit).

Since he is a force against the Rockets, this is a game in which Meyers should shoot at least 10 FGA, play more than 20 min, and continue improving his potent (hands high) defense to continue the winning streak. Holding Cousins to just 2 of 12 shooting was remarkable. I can see Meyers contributing 18 points and energetic defense in the Blazer win over the Rockets today!
 
Two paragraphs and not a single swish3 reference? I am disappoint.

But I like the idea; it also will force the Rockets into the tired old strategy of trying to get Dwight off early, and tiring him out.

I like that you vouch for a guy that should only play 8 games a year. (by your own words... 4 games against the rockets, 4 games against Sacremento... unless we only play them 3 times)

Meyers should also start against the Bulls, Pacers, Knicks, Celtics, Raptors, Pistons, and following games if his shooting and defense merit it.

The more he plays, the better his effectiveness.

According to his first post, my math says 20 games.

4 against Houston
4 against Kings
4 against Dallas
2 against Detroit
2 against Washington

Quit bashing Meyers. He has helped us win games.

He didn't have those when I originally responded, so....

I can bash if I want to, I can leave my cares behind. Cause if I don't bash then he ain't no Meyers of mine!
 
If we don't start Vonleh, I say we should start the player that went 19/13 in our last meeting, not the lost slow kid.

Plus, Plumlee will start and defend Dwight. What will Meyers bring if he defend Josh Smith, except open drives to the basket ?
 
Meyers will defend Josh as well when Mason is in, and together they will hold down Josh and Dwight. Meyers plays better when he is in the game the most, as shown by his stats of over 50% FG and 90% FT in back to back games.

The best defender on Josh Smith is Josh Smith.

In back to back games he was 1-3 (33%), and he never shot a free throw.

How can we even take you seriously?

And even if you mean back to back houston games, you're still wrong. He did well in the LAST meeting with them... but the meeting before that? 1-4 (25%) and 1-2 from the line (50%)

So either way you're wrong.

The numbers are from the NBA stats for 0 days rest. From watching and the numbers, Meyers does excel when his energy level (and long arms) are up and his quick ball movement is among the best. The reason to suggest the start is to get him moving and the hot shooting that he has shown when he is revved up. His defense can be powerful when he is in the zone. That intensity would be most welcome in a win over the Pockets today.

We haven't had a back to back in over a month (1/15, 1/16). wtf? So, no, bro, those aren't from 0 days rest. It nullifies your argument.

Please refer to "2015-16 REGULAR SEASON GENERAL SPLITS TRADITIONAL STATS" on the NBA site. The numbers posted are 51.1% for FG and 92.3% FT in the "0 days rest" column. I didn't make up the numbers.

I'm sure you didn't. But it doesn't matter tonight. Your title is about tonight's game.

Its not 0 days rest tonight. So it doesn't matter.

If you could be consistent... though, since you like Meyers, I can see why you're inconsistent. Must have been a Batum fan, too.
 
But the best way to get close to the warmed up, back to back scenario is to start and play more minutes. Getting the motor going with expectations of strong defense and shooting 10 or more FGA brings intensity. That is why starting Meyers in the game tonight makes sense.

It seems to only make sense to you. I get what your saying. Meyers has played better defense against the bigger bigs of the league. This is true. But Defense isnt the only thing a player brings to the table. Also Vonleh's D has not been a crutch either and I am confident he can hold his own at this point.

But here is the key. Meyers is slow. He is slow on Perimeter D and he is aslow in slashing to the rim. Right now we have plenty of outside shooters and so that single strength he brings is not critical. What we need are slashers who move in for the rebound and put back on the misses. something Harkless has done soooo much better than Meyers. Meyers only gets rebounds and put backs if the ball comes to him. He doesn't go and get it.

This is the main reason why Harkless and Vonleh are playing more. They are simply quicker to the ball and quicker to the basket and in today's ever changing game into small ball and quickness. It leave Meyers a day late and a dollar short. a decade ago Meyers would be a key figure on this team... Not now.

None of what you have said makes any sense.
 
You would think that Biebs is perfect for us because he can shoot, and stretching the floor is one of the pillars of our offense. However, the other pillar is "read-and-react", and Biebs is one of the worst decision makers I've seen on the Blazers, EVER.

This offseason, we should, in order of my preference
Trade him (he's restricted)
Cut him
Extend him for a modest amount
Extend him for a lot

Only this last option worries me. I have a feeling that a year from now, he'll be gone and Cliff will be beasting, and we will happily move on.
