Start Sharpe

Sharpe with 17 points on 7/10 shooting last night. For the season he's shooting 44% on threes and 51% overall while making some great defensive plays.

Sharpe only has one game this season he failed to score double figures when getting over 16 minutes (Memphis). Both himself and Dame have scored double figures in 7/11 Blazer games. Grant and Simons are the only Blazers with more double figure games than Sharpe, each with two more.

When will Sharpe's play force Billups to make the move of putting him in the starting lineup?

I don't think it will be this season. I think Hart fills a completely different role.

The bank shot he made after hanging in the air, was amazing to me. He made it look so easy, and I guess it was....for him.

Even though some might think I'm saying he will be Jordan, that shot was 100% Jordanesque.

If you were to slow it down (most of the iconic Jordan shots had the benefit of slo-mo to emphasize the gaudiness of it) and show that shot in slow motion, it's even prettier.

I think that's one other thing about Sharpe that sets him apart from other prospects we've had over the past few decades. There's an aesthetic quality to his performances and highlights that cannot be ignored. Like watching Griffey swing a bat--it was just a thing of beauty to behold, and anyone could see it.

To me, it's like the difference (visually speaking) of Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins.

Dominique is a lot like Zion (power more than grace). Jordan had power AND grace.

I'm loathe to jump into the Jordan comparisons--y'know, because he's the GOAT--but I keep thinking Dr J (which I realize is only like a tenth of a step down).

I know Sharpe’s not as tall. But I watched a whole lot of Dominique Wilkins as a kid thanks to TBS and Sharpe reminds me of how he used to spring to the hoop in force. They both almost preferred to shoot off the catch.

Yeah, it is hard to match the competitive makeup of Jordan and Kobe. That is what separated them. They were crazy athletic but beyond that, they never stopped working on their game. After googling both their true heights, SS is the same size. (His wing span is 1 " longer than those two) He will need to put on about 10 lbs over time IMO

I think Sharpe is waaay more athletic than Oden was. Oden was athletic for a big man but doesn’t compare to Sharpe imho.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh if you go back and look at Ohio State Oden...... totally different level of athleticism.

Yes Oden had great dunks inside, almost as athletic as Javalee McGee. Sharpe is a clear level higher though. Also he has amazing control and balance.

As others said beyond the athleticism Sharpe has a smoothness and grace very few have.

Travis Outlaw could probably jump similar but he tripped on his own feet and walked like a duck.

he also was about as smart as a duck too.

It's time. He's shooting much better than Ant overall. He's a natural shooting guard. He has good chemistry with Dame. Dame looks for him. That duo is the real deal and Dame is getting old so need to wait. I also like Ant off the bench where he can be the gunner and call his own number.

The future is bright — Ant (PG), Sharpe (SG), Jabari (SF/PF)
Trading Ant in a a package for a win now team is tempting … but ultimately not.

Starting Dame, Ant, Sharpe, Grant, Nurk? It’s early. In the season. In Sharpe’s career. It’s one thing when guys are hurt or getting rested … another when it’s seeing what happens to see how high he ascends, how quickly. Failure? Impact on other players? At some point they’re going to let ‘er rip, anyway. It can wait … but … at some point his own teammates will want to see it.

The kid is special. I’m not on the “Baby Kobe” team as that’s gold standard area … up there … (and I wasn’t a big Kobe fan). Start Sharpe, now? Okay, I would like to see it.

I don’t care if Sharpe starts. I DO care if he gets minutes, touches and shots. It’s criminal he wasn't given more touches and shots when we were struggling to score in the second half of the Brooklyn game.

That said, I do think starting him makes sense so we can build huge leads with 4 shooters on the floor. Also, Dame looks for Shaedon. The kid is shooting 51% from three and is shooting some absurd number from 0-3 feet. Get him touches, run plays, get him shots. Once defenses start keying to him get the ball to Dame, Ant and Grant.

While my main goal is minutes and shots, I do think Sharpe benefits from playing against the other team’s best players. Sharpe is the future of the team and our best chance to get Dame over the hump and into contention. Develop him now.

“Baby Kobe” is starting to become stale to me. If Sharpe becomes a career .447/.329/.837 guy, I’m going to be VERY disappointed.

Remember before season started, some people where trying to find a way to fit 10 or 12 minutes for Sharpe in the stacked rotation to develop him... Now we're mad he's only playing 21

Dame sitting and let that calf heal up. Expect Sharpe to start. Let’s see how a number of 30+ minute games work out.
