Stats Geek: Blame RJ for Nets’ Decline
May 5, 2008, 3:58 pm Dave Berri is a hoops stats geek…like John Hollinger (just don’t invite the two of them to same party). In his book, Wages of Wins, and website, Berri uses a vast array of statistics to prove his points. And his point today is that Richard Jefferson’s game is declining and it’s killing the Nets. Forget scoring he says: “His rebounds, blocked shots, and steals have declined. In fact, his performance with respect to net possessions (rebounds + steals - turnovers) was at an all-time low.”

Proves?

All Berri does is throw around his WP stat, which is more or less a linear-weights method of adding up traditional boxscore stats. I've never found it all that compelling. All he's really saying is that RJ used to fill up the boxscore and shoot a higher percentage, while this year he focused more on scoring, and as such shot a lower percentage.

sorry, forgot to add the question mark at the end.

And is it just me, or did my poor html-copy skills break the forum layout?

whoa. Maybe this is like Candyman, speak Kidd's name too many times on S2 and he comes and breaks your forum.

edit: fixed

Cool, thanks GMJ.
