Someone on Reddit suggested a lower seeded team has never swept their opponent in the first round in any major sport. That seems unlikely, can anyone try to rule the truth on this?

I think 8th seeded Memphis swept 1st seed San Antonio.

Wait didn't Miami get swept by ny like twice when they were the 1st seed?

Oh okay, I wasn't really paying too much attention that season. Thanks for clarifying

The Nuggets/Sonics series was one of my favorites of all time. No 8 seed had ever won and the Nuggets were down 0-2 in the best of 5. When Denver won game 5 (it was a best of 5), my brother and I ran outside and into the street to celebrate. THEN- Denver fell down 0-3 to Utah and actually came back to force a Game 7 where they unfortunateky lost. They almost made history twice. Robert Pack was so good that year. And Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf), Brian Williams (Bison Dele), and LaPhonso Ellis. Ellis was so good, my brother bought his jersey. 1994 Playoffs was one of my favorite of all time. Pacers reached game 7 of ECF from the 5 seed. Reggie Miller had his huge 4th quarter in Game 5. Also, 8th seeded Heat almost upset 1 seeded Atlanta. And the Finals went seven games. Great playoffs.

No. NY has never swept Miami. And Miami only lost as 1 seed once. It was 1999 and the Knicks won in Game 5 (best of 5) on an Allan Houston shot that bounced around on the rim before it fell. Knicks went on to reach NBA Finals where they lost to the Spurs in 5.

Didn't Golden State do that one year? Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson days?

GS did it in 6 games in 2007. Great series. I don't need to google shit about the playoffs post 1990. From then on, I know the playoffs very well. I would be grand champion in Playoffs Trivia for series after 1990. I fucking love the NBA Playoffs.

How about the NFL?

So to your knowledge, the statement "No lower seeded team has swept in the first round," is true?

The Montreal Canadiens just finished off sweeping the higher-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning three days ago.

I don't care about a sweep. I just want to win two more games against Houston.

Well then, strike it down to just the NBA!

I thought the Redditor said "a lower seeded team has never swept their opponent in the first round in any major sport." Why you wanna move the goalposts on me, man?

Fine: in 1959, the 35-37 Syracuse nationals swept the 40-32 New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. Happy now?

Hey Blazer fans! Some of you should remember the 1983 playoffs, where the 46-36 Blazers swept the 48-34 Sonics in the first round. I was 3 when it happened, but I'm surprised that none of you old-timers could pull that out right off!
