Statsny to the Blues 4y 28 mil

I would have taken him at those terms Al, 4 years is fine and most analysts had him pegged at 7.5 or higher.

He must have taken less to go to STL

The 7 is the range we thought per (7 to 7.5), but the 4 years is the gravy part.

It's not a bad contract IMO. Guys like Stastny while he isn't a bonafide #1, don't come up as a UFA often at 28. The term is reasonable at 4 years too. You get him 28-32 and you are trying to catch the Hawks and Kings. Great signing

I agree Dis. I like it also due to the 4 years. Ducks and Blues with great moves to add # 2 C's. Hawks need a # 2 also. Could be in on Thornton with us IF he gets moved.

I think the Hawks are going to try and get Brad Richards. Not sure Chicago is close enough to PEI for him

Agree, too...You're paying for his prime years then let him go. What's not to love?

better than semin but not nearly as good as Spezza, not in the same league as the Sedins, his cap value is horrible for a number 2 centerman which people were saying he was

I agree he is not a 7 mill per player, but as a UFA he was really. Only big C who was a UFA, even if he is a # 2. Plus only 4 years.

Too bad we couldnt find a way to reel both he and Boyle in and call it a day.

There are no bargains on July 1 Al. You only get bargains by drafting well and developing talent when they are young. We can agree to disagree

I understand the ways of free agency and having to overpay for a want. Look Stepan was our #1, was he the reason we failed in the playoffs? If failing is making it to the finals?
We got our biggest need filled in someone who knows wtf they are doing on the PP. We are short on right handed right wings. we are too left handed.

we need one more scoring winger in my opinion. you expect Lindberg to be able to hold down the 4th line. Brass on line 2 with Zucc and St Louis. Kreider, Stepan and Nash...the hole is the third line now

Just because we made it to the finals (for the first time in a generation) doesn't mean you shouldn't look to improve. Stastny would be our best center and would have only cost money. I would have much rather have Stastny @ 7M than Brassard at what will probably be $4M+.

This is a great signing for STL because they're paying only for his prime years, so it's always a good deal when you're paying for future performance rather than past performance as is usually the case with UFA.

I would have taken Vanek over Paul

I can sort of agree with that. Vanek was a dog in the playoffs but 3yrs is not a bad deal for a 30yo, is right handed and has good history scoring wise.

I don't love Vanek and rather have Stastny for 4 years.

Who plays on the 3rd line I wonder. I assume Glass and Moore make up 2/3 of the 4th line. Maybe a kid fills the last spot (Fast or Lindberg). Miller maybe on the 3rd line? I rather him on the wing though to start. Maybe we get a C.

That 3rd line scoring wise is a huge dropoff from last year if true

We're in trouble if that's our third line. Cool with 1 of Lindberg or Miller, but starting the season with both in the top 9 isnt gonna cut it
