Status on James Posey?

With Miami going with Penny I would presume that James Posey isn't resigning with them. Personally I'm surprised this guy is still available; I've always regarded him as a really good shooter and defender with good size. Does anyone think that theres a chance that he comes to NJ now that his value has dropped?</p>

We've got a TE (Can it be used in a s%t?)</p>

We've got a million and change left of our MLE.</p>

I'd love to have him on this team. Huge upgrade over Wright.</p>

Once you got beyond Shaq, Wade, and Zo, it was guys like Posey that really helped Miami win. I would think they want to re-sign him anyway. Penny's no guarantee be contribute squat.</p>

I just don't know if I feel like giving Wright another year of mediocracy. After 3 years of waiting maybe you quit waiting on this guy to give the impact a guy drafted from his position brings and go get a guy you know will get the job done? Posey does all the things Wright does, but better.

Wright played very well towards the end of last year and in the playoffs, so I'd have no problem letting him play instead of getting a guy like Posey.

I don't really know why they signed Penny. He is old, and he is not gonna put up very good numbers. They shouldn't of signed Penny, and they should of signed Posey for a long time. That was a poor dicision on Miami's part...</p>

Those were the first two reasons that came to my mind.</div>i wouldn't consider ime "youth", especially when compared to posey. last time i checked, 7 months is not that big a difference. they're both 30.

penny was only signed to a partially-guaranteed contract. not fully. i don't see too much of a problem with penny if he does good. </p>

but then again, they should have definitely signed posey for 2-3 more years(would that be a "long time"?). i'm also disappointed with that decision.</p>

oh well, all the better for the nets.</p>

I read somewhere that they really high on Dorell Wright, but on the other hand there were a few days that they were talking S & T with GSW for Pietrus. So I don't know, I think Posey's probably asking for a few years more than what Miami is willing to give.

That may be true, but the list of places that might conceivably give him more seems to be getting smaller and smaller.</p>

You know, a team that would be smart to look at him would be the Knicks. They don't have anyone at all I'd feel better about (than Posey) at the 3.</p>

I think his agent overvalued Posey. You look at a guy like Udoka who just signed with SA, he didn't get much of the MLE, 2 years 4 million. So if Posey is a little more skilled offensively, market value shows 2.5 million per. When his agent goes around asking teams that he wants 4 million, that turns a lot of teams off and with time being of the essence, they go elsewhere to complete their teams. Posey's pickings are slim.

Udoka got the vets minimum...$2 million over two years...from the Spurs. The absolute most I can see Posey getting is the LLE over two years. </p>

He hangs out on the perimeter. He doesn't drive the baseline. He can EASILY be replaced by Dorell Wright, who is 10 years younger, 3 inches taller and much more athletic. </p>

If--as rumored--the Nets want him, it means fewer minutes for Wright AND Nachbar. </p>

</div>posey has had more success in the league, and has been in the league longer. and he's got a ring. hm.</p>

and dorell wright can't shoot as good and isn't as proven a defender. we'll see what happens when the season rolls around, and if posey hasn't re-signed.</p>
