Hearing this strong: Rockets determined to trade Omer Asik by Dec. 19 at latest and have ramped up discussions with potential trade partners

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 1h
Reason Dec. 19 is significant is because anyone Rockets get would be eligible to be re-packaged in new deal on trade-deadline day (Feb. 20)

You can liken this to Thomas Robinson situation. Everyone knew Rockets were moving him by draft day ... it's just of matter of where now

Specific window to keep eye on for Rockets moving Asik is Dec. 15 (when last summer's free-agent signees become trade-eligible) to Dec. 19"

He won't be moved if they think they're getting a lottery pick or a high-end power forward.

I don't see a team that makes sense that can give them what they want at all. Maybe Charlotte takes him for one of our or Detroit's picks? What lottery team is going to give it up for Asik? And what team with a high end PF doesn't want to fit said player alongside Asik instead of swapping them out.

I have said this before, Morey's asking price is a pie in the sky joke, time for a reality check if he really wants to move Asik by the 19th, and when other teams know you are motivated to move a player U ain't gonna get what you think

Such a shame Thomas Robinson came from Houston. He's exactly the kind of guy I'd like to trade for him.

Also a shame that we haven't been able to see CJ play for us. He might be a more viable trade chip if there weren't so many unknowns.

It's a supply and demand thing, I guess. If I were a fan of Houston, I'm happy right now. I'd be pissed as hell if they just shipped out Asik on the first deal that came around. (See how the Lakers pilfered Pau, or later almost got Chris Paul.) The Rockets GM is holding out as long as he can as publicly as he can, which is smart IMO.

But yeah, there comes a point where you have to trade Asik or the asset starts dropping drastically in value. Whatever happens with Asik, I'm sure there will be lots of comparisons with what we could have offered.

IMO Asik's value has already dropped quite a bit since summer when they should have moved him IMO, now with an added "deadline" the value he returns falls more IMO

Plus all the malcontent stuff, and sitting out games and pouting. That all hurts his value.

I hope asik goes to a shitty fucking team like Charlotte. Or better yet, how about Milwaukee? :)

The pouting and quitting on his team bothers me because I see it the as the same kind of whiny, entitled bullshit that Rudy pulled when he was here. On the other hand he's got some talent and this team needs some more of it, if it's serious about going all-in for a playoff run.

The problem is, with Lopez we could see the same problems with Asik if he were brought in. His free throw shooting is a real problem, which could have him on the bench at the end of games. We definitely don't need that kind of attitude on this team.

all depends how cheap he is, if Olshey could pick him up cheap you give it a shot, if not no problemo

This board treats this guy like he's lebron leaving Cleveland. I'm tired of reading about him. Lopez is the shit, give it up.

None of the rumors indicate that Houston is willing to part with him for cheap.

then IMO they risk getting little or nothing. With next years 15mil payday and expiring contract for Asik the longer Morey lets this go the lower Asik's value goes, the pressure is on and IMO morey has not handled this very well so far

Yeah perhaps ... Look, I'm not saying it wouldn't be a gamble and there would be some issues to be ironed out in terms of playing time, but I think he'd create some real match-up problems for some of the other playoff hopefuls in the West.

Nobody is doing that. He's a legit 7 footer with defensive chops and rebounding - a rare breed in the NBA nowadays.

See, I think you try to swing for the fences if you're going to make a mid-season trade. I don't consider Asik "the fences."

Maybe I'm crazy, but I would try to get Milwaukee to part with Larry Sanders. Not sure how that works with the poison pill though.

I agree Sanders would be a much better target. He's making starters' money so you'd probably have to part with Lopez (and a lot more) to get him.

I would do it, if Milwaukee was willing to trade him. Not sure how you trade with the PPP though.

In hindsight it would have been nice to have traded Asik over the summer. But I think their GM had to see if there was some way they could fit. It certainly seemed worth a shot. If they hadn't and the Rockets had a rough start, people would be saying they should never have traded Asik.

I don't know that the attitude thing is that big of a deal. He's maybe a to 3-5 NBA center. It's not unreasonable for him to demand to play more than 10 or 20 mpg. NBA careers are extremely short, and he had to work extremely hard to get where he is. If I were him I'd be impatient too. Dikembe Mutombo is as classy as they come, but if in the prime of his career he was stuck behind Shaq you can bet your ass he'd have made a stink. These guys have pride. They want to leave their mark. Going public was a mistake though.
