Stein: "HOU determined to trade Asik by Dec 19th"

In hindsight it would have been nice to have traded Asik over the summer. But I think their GM had to see if there was some way they could fit. It certainly seemed worth a shot. If they hadn't and the Rockets had a rough start, people would be saying they should never have traded Asik.

I don't know that the attitude thing is that big of a deal. He's maybe a to 3-5 NBA center. It's not unreasonable for him to demand to play more than 10 or 20 mpg. NBA careers are extremely short, and he had to work extremely hard to get where he is. If I were him I'd be impatient too. Dikembe Mutombo is as classy as they come, but if in the prime of his career he was stuck behind Shaq you can bet your ass he'd have made a stink. These guys have pride. They want to leave their mark. Going public was a mistake though.

Well said.

If you want out, you continue to play and you quietly ask for a trade. Going public and sand bagging it is NOT a good sign. Even if we brought him in and started him, I'm worried about what he does to our chemistry that has been such a key issue thus far.

Such a shame Thomas Robinson came from Houston. He's exactly the kind of guy I'd like to trade for him.

Also a shame that we haven't been able to see CJ play for us. He might be a more viable trade chip if there weren't so many unknowns.

Ya I thought the same thing. What a pisser huh? I would give up Freeland though.

Robinson really doesn't make sense next to Howard. They need a Lamarcus Aldridge or a Ryan Anderson.

Terrence Jones has really been playing well for them lately and he's got range out to the three point line.

I think the Rockets are going to get very little in return. His poor attitude hurts his value drastically, he isn't worth the contract he is due. All the contenders have options at center and will be hesitant to bring in an average center demanding a starting role.

I bet they'd settle for an expiring contract so they can try to add a free agent in the offseason.

Paul Allen is already writing a check for a max contract for Brandon Roy; I doubt he wants to pay $15million for Asik to be a backup center. Plus Houston wants other assets in return? There is no chance of that.

I don't know... this could work out well for him. Asik doesn't give a rats ass that Houston gets the most value in return. If he is traded to a contender for pennies on the dollar that new team will have more talent around him to win.

that's why I think Olshey could steal him, probably would take a 3-way with another team though

You are drastically underselling Asik. He isn't having a good year but his rebounding numbers last year were elite.

10 ppg, 11.7 boards, 1.1 blocks, 15 PER.

He isn't average, he's definitely a starter, and he's worth his contract.

I think he's worth the cap hit of his contract. I don't think e's worth what an owner will have to pay next season, though.

You have a team with one of the best records in the league and everyone is buying in to what the coaching staff is selling. I would not send assets out with a high risk of ruining the good thing we have going.

Did you compare Asik to Mutombo? A top3 NBA center? Howard, Gasol, Hibbert, Horford, Noah, Davis, Chandler, B Lopez, Cousins, Drummond, Bogut, Sanders are all vastly superior to him. My gosh some fans have an insane hard-ons for this guy. He is a role player. Chicago was happy to let him walk at $8 million and they have zero interest in bringing him back. Asik is worthless on offense, a free throw liability at the end of games. He would be a backup on most contending teams.

Given the start this team has had and if Olshey told PA that Asik might get us over the top I have no doubt PA would write that check next yr, hell it's only ONE yr at 15 mil and if Asik played like he did last year he's worth close to 10 mil, look what SA gave to Splitter

even if its assets that only play backup minutes or haven't even yet played?

When theres 12 players at your position vastly superior to you your no better than average. There isn't any team in the league where he would be worth $15 million next year.

None of those players are available. I'm not really a huge fan of Asik, but I still think you're underselling him.

PA might very well pay it, I was just saying I don't know if he is worth 15 a year.

PER mostly measures offense. Defensively he's not average for his position and that increases his value.

he's not, but he and his contract fit the "2-yr window" and he only gets that for one yr, with what he is paid this he it's probably a fair contract, maybe modestly overpaid based upon last seasons production and defense.

Assuming you could get Asik for spare parts, how would this work? If you have him backup RoLo then Asik will get pissy. If you have him start, you still have to pull him at the end of games because of FT shooting (although he has improved a bit this year) and who knows what it would do to excellent team chemistry. I would love to have Asik in and have him get Freeland minutes, but that isn't going to work.

That's the rub, AND you can't play either of them at power forward. At least with someone like Frye or Hawes, you could probably play them next to Lopez and Aldridge.

Asik is the similar competency but the complete opposite of JJ Hickson. Hickson had a PER of 20 but zero defense. Asik has great defense but horrific offense. Could he have a valuable role as rotational player? Yes. Is he someone you build a team around? No. Does he start over most options already on contending teams? No.

If Asik wouldn't mind being back up, he's fine. And maybe he could work into the starting line-up. Lopez is a 28 minute player. Asik could be another 28 minute player, switching minutes per game. Basically, both sharing the same amount of production.

What bites the hole in my ass is that he didn't even give Houston a chance and demanded a trade immediately. That means he doesn't feel like he has to earn minutes, but rather entitled. I said this in the other thread. I could see a Damon moping and publicly complaining about lack of 4th quarter production, etc.

Suppose we live in a magical christmas world where we gave up only Leonard and Freeland...

"LaMarcus, you know Omer Asik" grins Olshey who's sporting a Christmas tie. A solemn Aldridge shakes Asik's hand. "He and Robin will insure that you never play a minute of Center this year or in the near future!" Aldridge embraces a large grin and says to Asik "Let me show you around, you'll like it here!"

I don't see a team that makes sense that can give them what they want at all. Maybe Charlotte takes him for one of our or Detroit's picks? What lottery team is going to give it up for Asik? And what team with a high end PF doesn't want to fit said player alongside Asik instead of swapping them out.

That would be a nice move for Charlotte. A starting 5 of Walker, Henderson, MKG, Jefferson and Asik would be very tough to deal with. Asik would complement Jefferson really well.

This dream doesn't make me wet. Freeland is the shit
