Steve Blake to be a Laker

"Wisely"?

Does this mean the Lakers don't have enough money for Mike Miller? Or are they hoping he's "wise" as well?

I'm pretty sure the Lakers will not have enough money to sign Miller now. I think they were offering him the full MLE and now Blake takes 4m of the MLE.

in related news: so much for that three-pete

Some "Tweets" about the Blake Signing:

Chris Tomasson:
Lakers had been in the mix for Steve Blake. When Derek Fisher turned down $2.5 million deal, Lakers jumped fast to get Blake.
If signing Blake means the Lakers don't re-sign Fisher, then I would be happy indeed. But then again:

Scott Howard-Cooper:
Blake deal a fastball under Derek Fisher's chin. But this feels like Odom talks last summer. No need to consider this the end of Fish in LA.
Phooey. But wait:
Does seem like there will be serious Lakers $$ outbound at some point. Odom? This is summer Buss wants to trim salary, and now adds Blake.
Yay!
Also:
Christopher Reina:
Mike Miller would have had a greater impact for Lakers than Steve Blake, but must feel very confident more than the MLE is coming his way

So, Blake signing means at least one of Mike Miller, Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom will not be Lakers next year. All three would be better for the Lakers, methinks.

You mean like the time he missed 4 free throws in a row or the time in the playoffs where he took the 30 foot 3 point shot with 13 seconds left on the clock.

Blakey's "clutch" shooting is over-rated as is the player himself.

If the Laker fans didn't like Fisher last season, wait until they get a load of Blake.

Fuck him.

He hit his fair share of clutch shots, and he also f'ed up a lot. That's why he's coming at a cheap price, the dude is not perfect.

But he is that kind of guy who will probably burn some teams with a clutch 3 out of the corner or from the wing. I could just see it now.

Very happy for Blake.

The Laker decision, whilst not sitting well with Blazer fans, is the ideal choice for Blake. He gets to work with a legendary coach (Jackson) and player (Kobe). He also gets a shot at becoming part of an elite group of players to achieve championships at both the NCAA and NBA level.

And after watching Blake spank Fisher all over the place in last year's final game with a triple-double, I think this also presents an ideal opportunity for him to actually start again at some point.

If that's the case, then thank god. Sweet signing for us and the league. If not, then good for the L*kers and good for Blake. I will cheer him the first time he's announced in the RG as a Laker. But after that? No. He'll just be another cvnt L*ker.

I'm sure some will.

Very few I think. I wouldnt doubt if he's given a nice ovation when he returns for the first time. Unlike past castoffs, I dont think the fans have any sort of bad association with him. He sometimes left a bland taste in our mouths, but never bitter.

I was sorta hoping he'd be our Derek Fisher. Keep coming back for repeated tours. He'd make a nice backup I think.

Steve Blake could've signed for more money elsewhere, but wisely chases ring with Lakers at 4 years for $16 million.

WEAK!

Blakey Blaker Blake deserves better! Welcome to SMOG city buddy ole pal

This. How many threads did we have on here knocking Steve Blake and knocking Nate McMillan for playing Steve Blake? I love how whenever a player people disliked on the Blazers signs elsewhere, he all of a sudden becomes great in the eyes of the same posters.

According to the following site, Blake turned down FIVE (!) other offers. :shock2:
I wonder who those teams were? Orlando, NY Knicks, and Toronto were reportedly interested in signing him. Maybe Portland and Indiana as well.

In Los Angeles, the Lakers inked point guard Steve Blake to a four-year, $16 million deal Friday. Blake reportedly turned down offers to join five other teams to toil for the NBA champs.

HOLY SHIT! Just got off work and saw this! He is gonna light us up! 'Bout to go order my Blake Laker jersey right now fams!

You have to admit he's a great fit for them. With what teams are paying players this summer the Lakers got him dirt cheap.

I remember Blake killing us when he was in Denver! Game went to O.T. and he lit us up! Good luck to you oh Pasty One!

His best talent is mind control over the coaching staff, who will play him over more talented alternatives. Prepare for Kobe to be benched to make room for Blake to start.

barfo

Bwaaaahahahahaha!

Good one Barfo!

Redneck goes to Hollywood! I just can't envision Blake chatting it up with Jack?

Blake wasn't all that much better than Sergio. If 5 teams were interested in Blake, then 3 teams would have been interested in Sergio, if he had just stuck around.

Your kidding - right? Blake is an infinitely better shooter and defender. When the Blazers played the Cavs, didn't M Williams score like 40 pts when Sergio was starting for Blake, who was injured? When Blake returned (shoulder not fully healed), Williams hardly scored at all in the 2nd game.

Sergio would have gotten maybe one of the Indiana 1-year contracts that nobody else wants.

I think my L*ker hatred has been well-established in this forum and others. It physically hurts me to see Blakey in the Purple & Piss. It's not just a decent signing, it's a great one. Think about the "point guards" who have thrived in the Triangle next to MJ and K*be. It's been guys like BJ Armstrong, John Paxson, Steve Kerr and Derek Fisher. Guys that don't make a lot of mistakes and can hit an outside shot.

Blake doesn't have to create. We all know he can hit the three. We know he's not going to make a lot of dumb plays. Furthermore, he plays solid defense. Phil Jackson's system fits him to a "T". I didn't necessarily want him back on the Blazers, but I knew I didn't want him to join the F'L*kers. He's going to be great for them, and if Fish re-signs with them, it really stabilizes their PG position. They had been searching for a backup point for years. Now they have 48 minutes of steady, solid play at the one, which is all the Triangle needs. In the words of Bishop Fred, "RATFARTS!"

Yup. There's probably no better situation he could have landed in from a PT and fit angle, and he gets to play for a contender. I won't really miss him in a Blazers uniform, but I strongly suspect he's going to be very, very effective for them in a 25-30 minute a night role. Great Moneyball signing by Kupchak.

The anal-rapist's stock just shot through the roof.

With Steve feeding Bryant the league will forget there even is a LeBron James.

A year from now Steve will be very famous, with all the national game audiences. Phil Jackson is leaving in a year. The players will retire in a few years and Steve will be the best one left, with the ineffective GM-by-committee (Kupchak/Buss family) failing at trading.
