Why does this feel like a Maurice Cheeks style hiring?

As in, "he was a great player in the NBA, he'll be a great coach!". I bet it was a players wanted a coach that they didn't think would make them play defense, and just have fun.

Very similar to how Jason Kidd was hired to coach the same franchise a few years back. History repeating.

I'm not sure that is the justification here. Nash has one of the highest BBIQ we've ever seen play the game. If he can effectively communicate to his team - he'll be a great coach. It has nothing to do with his status as a player.

Is Brooklyn getting an expansion MLS franchise or something?

So was Magic Johnson, horrible coach.

Larry Bird was an excellent coach. So, it certainly has a chance of being an excellent outcome (just as it is likely to backfire). At the very minimum you know that the players will not automatically write him off.

Sean Marks also has history with him from Phoenix. He and KD probably hand-picked him. Shouldn't just be dismissed.

Is it though? Kidd came into the league a designated star, while Nash had to bust his butt for recognition. I would bet Nash brings a completely different outlook to the job.
They are both in the Hall, I don't think you can question their work ethics, although Kidd is a POS person and Nash is a saint.

You know what, I thought of that, but Nash I think will succeed. Something about him and how he carries himself and his knowledge of the game.

These teams need to hire Ime Udoka and David Vanterpool! Both are ready.

Wonder if Coach Nash will wear this on the sidelines?

If I'm not mistaken, last 2 summers Coach Tibbetts from our staff has interviewed with some teams as well.

Think it might have passed them by. NBA is a copycat league, and with how much positive praise BK seems to be getting, I would wager that the next few coaching hires will all be former big name PGs: Kidd, Lue, and apparently Billups now.

Nash actually kind of resembles the England coach Gareth Southgate:

I wonder if Brandon Roy has his sights set on NBA coaching ever.
