Steve Nash: Trade to Portland would be a "terrific situation"

A team of Nash, Wallace, Batum, Aldridge and Camby? Are we getting Nash for free?

I was responding to your post about trading Williams and cap space for Nash. If you look at my next post, I expressed skepticism about getting Nash for just Williams and bad contracts.

I saw it after my post

Why mortgage our future for 3 months of Nash? I love him, but not more then a bright future for my Blazers! The Heat are winning the next 10 championships anyway!

It's like some of you are thinking Phoenix and Portland will combine teams with all the good players going to Portland.

Nash/Felton/Williams
Batum/Crawchuck/Matthews
Wallace/Hill
Aldridge/Morris/Frye/Smith
Gortat/Camby/Joel

That's 15 guys, and that team MIGHT get out of the first round

Well there would have to be certainty that he resigns with Portland is my guess

I don't think anyone is acting like that. I think most are attempting to look at it realistically, and see, with limited ability with picks or players, what crap we'd have to take off of their team to get them to say yes.

Hill probably makes sense to join us too if nash is moved

Haircut is a must, and no getting rid of E.Will.
Felton+Crawford for Nash, fine.

Come on man, you're talking about one of the best PGs in the game and your offer consists of two players that our fans can't stop complaining about, and you won't throw in an unproven question mark with some potential to get STEVE NASH?

Same with the guy who says he won't throw in a first rounder. It's Steve Nash! Do you want to contend or do you want to count on potential for another two decades?

I think we should get in as a facilitator to a Nash deal instead. Help send him back to Dallas so we can get Beauboius. Basically we'd be depending on Nic to take a lot more active ballhandling role and relying on Jamal too, but I'm fine with both of those things. If he can do it, we know he's a worth a big contract, if he can't, then his value is down before we have to re-sign him.

Nash/CJohnson to Dallas

Odom's been terrible for them, Nash is a favorite and would do well splitting minutes w/Kidd (24 each and neither would complain, they can both be in at the end of games unless Terry is hot). PLUS, this keeps Nash from going to ORL and making Dwight happier. Additionally, if Deron doesn't come back, then they've got Nash's bird rights. AND more cap space.

Odom/Felton to PHX

They save all of Frye's contract. Probably need to throw in a pick or something in addition to this package.

Frye/Beaubois to Portland

We eat Channing's contract but that's okay. He might fit better now that LMA plays in the post more. Get him used to that high post position that Camby/Thomas occupy a lot of the time. Beaubious is a high risk player who probably shoots too much and can't find time on that Dallas team. He's a very good defender and might play great next to Batum for an outrageously long backcourt. Plus we become more of a drive n kick team (w/Aldridge underneath) w/Beaubois and Crawford playing 1) so Channing's shot is a nice addition.

Crawford gets 30 @PG
Matthews gets 30 @SG (package w/Jamal spread shooters)
Batum gets 30 - (18 @PG, 12 @SF) (Wallace b/up early + in when Jamal's out)
Beauboius gets 18 @SG (in when Jamal's out)

At least we'd have a lot of firepower. I know this might not work well in the playoffs, but with all the vets we have now, I wouldn't mind trying at least.

Keep LaMarcus, Nic, and Camby. Give them whatever else they want. We have to keep Camby to have any playoff success this season.

Yes. I know it seems a little crazy, considering how old he is, but if the idea of the Blazers trading for Nash, is one big push (one or two seasons left for Nash at high level) before Paul Allen can't watch his guys anymore, they have to keep Camby. He has been they key glue guy for the team.

Not for Batum but if we still have Batum and Aldridge, it definitely is IMO. People aren't looking at the big picture here. Nash is a proven leader and dealt from the perimeter. He would open so many things up for our offense. You think lob city with miller? Nash tosses lobs to perfection.

Well, because if they sit on Nash until this summer, they have a good chance of losing him for nothing.

The linked report above said the Suns are very interested in dumping some of their bad contracts. This is the kind of thing the Suns have done in the past, especially when rebuilding.

i cant believe some people have said they would trade batum for him......thats just............wow............

How much Value does Batum really have to the suns? Im asking because they are rebuilding mode and want to get bad contracts off there books and pick up young talent on good contracts. Batum will be making almost 10m after his new contract this year, are the suns really ready to start shelling out big cash so quickly?
I also wonder how much they are going to value Felton. He has almost no trade value to a lot of teams but last year he showed in a run and gun system, much like the Suns have, he can be very effective. Felton might be the real piece they want if they think they can get him back into NYK shape. Same question about if they suns will want to pay him next season.
If i'm the suns I want exp contracts young talent and draft picks plus the ability to unload my bad contracts. Thats a lot to ask for nash, so I think they'd settle for 2 of the three. Idealy i'd like to see something like http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7sm7vdm with a pick thrown in but that won't top what the Suns get from orlando.

(I'm rusty, 17 hours ahead and have been speaking more Korean than I thought I knew...but I can't pass up a Steve Nash rumor)

I don't know...if we're going to "go for it", at least give up Matthews so that if we don't "get it," then we have a chance to retool via (not free agency, but non-wanted contracts).

In a fun-to-watch world, we'd roll into the playoffs with a rotation of what's below:

And if we totally flame out, we have LMA and Frye as the only contracts on the roster (w/Batum being RFA).

Something like http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7shvcv4

Nash and Frye (and maybe, after March 1, Grant Hill) for Felton and Camby and Nolan Smith (they get younger at PG for cheap, trade expirings for expirings and toss Frye's contract in)
Then Wes and Babbitt for Ray-Ray. (they get a young, cheap, pretty good SG and a Fan Favorite in Babbitt--not b/c he's white, but because Scalabrine's getting old)

Picks/Cash/Elliott as necessary.

Nash/Ray/Batum/Wallace/LMA with Thomas, Hill, Crawford, Frye, Przy on the bench.

We'd be older than some Bible stories, but I'd watch. And I think we'd go far. And I think we'd rebuild this summer like the Marlins.

Keep Batum and settle for years of mediocrity. Get Nash and possibly reach the western conference finals and maybe more? High risk, high return, I'm all for Nash on this one. Though, if we could somehow trade Wallace instead of Batum, I'd rather do that. Maybe Wallace, Felton, & nolan for Nash? And maybe get the Celtics to bite on a Ray Allen for Matthews trade? That would be fun to watch.

You think we're contenders with Nash? No freaking way. We'll get eaten by Miami assuming we can pass the west (which we can't).

We're all assuming that Nate actually gives Nash the reigns and doesn't force him to run nateball.
