Steve Nash: Trade to Portland would be a "terrific situation"

I don't think McMillan has the cache to force Nash, an established star and probably Hall of Famer, to play a way he doesn't want to. There's no way McMillan could bench Nash, without losing his players and probably management, so he'd have no leverage.

Nate is all-powerful, and he'd turn Steve Nash into John Nash by the end of the season.

Nevermind that Nate's team is 8th in the NBA in Pace this year, while Phoenix is 13th. :MARIS61:

How about this:

Phoenix loses $4M immediately and $18M more at the end of the year. Camby could probably be flipped to some contender, also. We hang on to Gerald and Batum, and we also clear out space to re-sign Patty. We could throw in $3M of PAM and maybe the rights to Claver. I'm not sure I would also include Freeland, but if that was the breaking point I'd be pretty tempted (in part because we would have fucked our cap room so badly we could never sign him...)

I'd much rather include Freeland than Camby, but I don't know if one can make the salaries work without Camby. If Portland traded for Nash, they'd be attempting to maximize a window now...Camby obviously has far more value right now than Freeland, as the team arguably doesn't have a legitimate NBA-caliber center beyond Camby. Moving Aldridge to center and Wallace to power forward I consider workable in short stretches, but not a good season-long solution.

I don't understand why the Blazers would trade to rent nash. Just blow it up already
John Hollinger (2:53 PM)

They see it as a rent-to-own; the idea is that he'd agree to stay beyond this season. And I'd say "blow it up" is a pretty harsh remedy for a team with an All-Star in his prime

Who do you see the Blazers trading for Nash? I can't seem to find a trade that makes sense for the Suns. All the Blazers have are underperforming guards, old expiring contracts and picks.

Batum would be the key haggling point. Not sure if Portland would give him up, but I do believe they'd consider it.

Nothing's changed in Phoenix: Suns still not trading Steve Nash unless he asks for it, sources say. And he won't.

Im guessing they are fighting with if they want to give batum $10 mil a year

I think Batum is over rated by a lot of people on this board and in the Blazers organization. That being said Batum at his age and 10 million is a hell of a lot more valuable than Nash is at whatever he will command at his age

Yeah, well, that's BS. It's called their bargaining position, as in, you'd better make us a good offer since we aren't interested in trading him. Baloney. They still might not get an offer they like, and hang on to him, but that's just posturing.

A 38 year-old Nash or a 25 year-old Rondo?

It's pretty obvious who we should target. "Rent-to-own" while giving up a 23 year-old player on the verge of a breakout for a player with only two years (at the most) isn't worth it.

There is no chance getting Rondo. I don't know why people think we have some shot at him? Why would Boston trade away their only star quality young player? Doesn't make sense.

There's a difference between playing like an all-star and "pundits" saying you should be one.

So the guys in the media just pull names out of a hat they think are in the all-star discussion?

Yeah, and Kidd wasn't even close to being the best player on the Mavs. You're expecting Nash to be our best player and our savior.

I never said that. With Nash at point, I expect Aldridge to be our best player, better than ever.

Natebishop3... Dude you don't have to be the best player on the court to make everyone around you better. Nash does this. He will get passes to players in rhythm, can shoot the outside J, quick around the basket and has no fear. He would easily turn this Blazer squad into a scoring machine, IMO.

The media was wrong in this case. That shouldn't be too hard to believe. Unless you liken everything the media spits at you.

Ditto.

Now if it was a finals win this year and then 10 years of missed playoffs, you'd have my full attention.

What if Nash signed an extension so it became 3 years of contention and then a rebuild?

10 years of no playoffs? eek, half of yall would be dead by then

It was an opinion. Kinda like how people had the opinion that Aldridge should have been an AS last year. They were wrong so I shouldn't believe it had any merit.

Personally I don't think 39, 40 and 41 years old Nash = "contention" with the way the rest of the roster is put together.

What is your point? That Felton isn't an all-star? That he should have been?

My stance was that he wasn't playing at (or near) an all-star level, despite what the media was trying to say.

That Felton was in the running for AS team in the East last year.

Speaking of Felton........ Our kids elementary school auction was this weekend. Every year I get some cool stuff for the auction. Round of golf with the Mikes at Pumpkin Ridege, signed shoes, jersey, ball.... whatever. One of the items this year the new trainer gave me some autographed shoes from Ray........ sad to report NOT ONE FUCKING PERSON bid on them!! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! Serious! How sad is that?

What do you do with them then? Does the money go to your kids school? I guess I don't really have much money to donate, not sure why I ask, but would be cool to have. $50? guess the shoes by themselves are worth more, huh.
