Steve Nash: Trade to Portland would be a "terrific situation"

Name one player other than Aldridge that has been more consistent than Batum?

Felton. He has been the most consistent player on the team.

Unfortunately, it has pretty much all been bad.

Gramps...

Nash will expect 10 mil per for the next three seasons. If we trade Wallace and Felton for Nash and frye; we would still have significant space for free agency. There is no guarantee that Wallace will opt out of his contract, since his play has been so erratic this season. That would leave us on the hook for 12 mil. Frye and Nash would make a combined 15 mil next season; which is like us keeping Wallace, letting Felton go and grabbing a pg that earns 3 mil per. So realistically what's better?

Don't you wish we were getting Steve Nash instead of Blake? That said, I don't hate Blake as much as some of you.

In return for Felton? Yes, I wish we were getting Steve Nash instead of Blake.

I don't hate Blake. I hate Hitler. Blake is just a bad basketball player.

I really think Nash to the Mavs makes a lot of sense. He can get a ring, split time w/Kidd (who probably retires after this year) and the Mavs keep the cap space after this year to go chasing after Deron and Dwight. If Deron isn't interested then Dwight would still like to play w/Nash. ALSO, it keeps Orlando from getting him, which would maybe keep Dwight around.

However, the Mavs won't absorb an extra contract from Phoenix because of the cap space plan, I think that's why we'd be a great facilitator.

Odom, Felton to Phx
Beauboius, Frye to POR
Nash, CJohnson to Dallas

Beauboius would be great here w/Batum. Yes I know, he's not a true PG, and we have Jamal. However, I think Beaubious/Batum would be a terror on defense at 1/2 and their ballhandling together would make an adequate fit (at least in the second unit). Beauboius is probably a Crawford type of player, which is why it'd be good to also possibly have another trade for a PG, but I'm sure he'd offer more than Felton at this point.

Additionally, we could probably trade Crawford for a PG to finish out the season, or just play Nolan a bunch.

Nash to Dallas
Rondo to Ptd

(Problem is Nash wouldn't mind coming to Ptd and Rondo probably wants nothing to do with Ptd . . . so I'll take Nash)

I have a feeling we will be using Camby, Wallace, and Felton for Nash, Warrick and Childress. Problem with this trade is we won't have much for cap space this summer, unless we don't resign Nash. I am really hoping Matthews could replace Camby, so we would still have an expiring contract.

This is the kind of short sighted deal that cripple franchises into mediocrity. Taking on that much salary in the hopes that Nash extends (and hell, plays well in his extension) is like going all in with a pair of twos with 8 other people. Sure, there's a chance it works, but most likely you're just gambling away 1-2 years of your team.

Your right but I have a feeling this is going to happen.

That deal 3 years ago would have me saying were overpaying now its like PHX is bending us over and having their way with us.

If we don't move fast, the Suns will pass us in the standings (they're only 1 game back) and Steve Nash will lose interest.

If they're only 1 game back they better keep him for the playoff race of their own.

That's what I'm saying. Nash will lose interest in PDX, but the fact does remain that he'd have more talent to play with in Portland. He doesn't have an All Star big man in Phoenix.

Bump. You Batum lovers still wish we were hanging onto him instead of making a title run?

I just remembered what I posted a year ago in a Nash thread.

There could be two benefits--him being a player, and when he retires here, being our head coach.
